The Big 5 Player of the Year is not just "another award." As the article states, a Penn player has only won the award once since Haigler, McDonald and Price won in the '70s, and that was Ibby in 2007. It's really tremendous, and it's true recognition that he was, indeed, much better than Harrison Gaines.

Kudos to Zack but was that really necessary? Can't you just enjoy the moment for Zack and the program?

Zack is only the sixth Penn player in program history to win the Geasey Trophy:

Pal, I was giving myself the knock, not anyone else. However, as everyone is aware, I always was fond of Gaines, thought he was talented and wished things had worked out better.

My bad. Just a case of typing before I thought. I know you've always been a Gaines advocate so I should have picked up on what you were saying. Getting old man.

Short Jewish guys around the globe are rejoicing in new hopes for their athletic careers, and just in time for softball season. Thank you Zach.

I don't know who this "Zach" is that you refer to. You'd think that all of his accolades and accomplishments would at least lead to Penn fans being able to spell Zack's first name correctly.

Don't worry, Q, 94 is just a curmudgeon---he got all over me for calling Tottingham Hotspur "the" Spurs rather than just "Spurs". Must not be a lot of things to complain about down there in Texas.

As everyone around here knows, I agree with Penn94. There's no excuse for ever spelling his name wrong at this point.
Congrats to Zack on a great and well-deserved honor.

It's not curmudgeonly. We get irritated when we're referred to as Penn State. The name is Spurs without the direct article.

Wait a second. The name of the school is not Penn State, so calling it Penn State is just wrong. The name of the team is Tottingham Hotspur, so calling them either the Spurs or just Spurs is a matter of convention. Different thing. But I know that Americans who fancy themselves as soccer fans are like religious converts on that issue.
Anyway, I have tickets to the game, and since my daughter is a fan of Liverpool, I will loudly call them THE Spurs just to urinate off their fans.

The fans of Tottenham Hotspur might disagree that 'The Spurs' is a convention instead of being just wrong.
Back to the original thread - this is a great honor for Zack. Well deserved.

My rooting allegiance finds nothing wrong with Spurs-bashing so yell all you want, but it's not going to reflect well on you, even with the Scousers.

Congrats Zack.
Regarding the off topic discussion:
We're completely missing the statistics dimension. If this Spurs debate is going to even come close to the "Close Games" thread we need to get Dodgy Lasagna in here to throw down some numbers.
