On top of his Arizona offer, 2013 Chandler (Ariz.) Basha guard Jaron Hopkins also picked up offers from Nebraska and UTEP.

Pretty sure Penn offered Hopkins a year ago. I'd say this likely removes Penn from any possibility of serious consideration.

More from same teenager/high school senior:

"Another interesting player for the newly merged ECE/NJABC squad was Julian Moore, a 2013 6-foot-9 center from Germantown Academy (PA). Wagner offered Moore on the spot and join Bucknell and Colgate in his scholarship category. The talented big man can run the floor extremely well and is gaining rapid interest from “Lehigh, Lafayette, Marist, La Salle, Boston University, Penn, Cornell, Navy, Niagara, Drexel and Holy Cross.” Moore has visited Bucknell, Colgate, Lehigh, Cornell, Boston and Penn – of the schools involved – and will project as a high-academic talent who can play at a mid-major plus program. He can create off the dribble and is an excellent rebounder. Moore needs to get stronger and consistently finish around the rim, which is something he has improved on over the past six months. Look for more schools to offer in the coming months, whether or not they are high-academic."

At one point this spring Penn was considering Georgia Tech transfer Nate Hicks for admissions. He is an excellent student and we brought him to campus for a look see.

Penn ultimately decided it wasn't the right fit. Read that Nate just committed to Florida Gulf Coast. He is 6'10 and would have had only two years of eligibility after sitting out a year.

Ever since Ibby's monster dunk at the end of the game at the Palestra in their first D-1 year, Florida Gulf Coast has been out to get us.

Looks like so many of the guys listed in this thread are guards. Where are the big guys? Maybe we need to make a trade with Harvard...

I wonder what it was about Hicks' game that convinced the coaching staff that he wasn't a good fit.

Actually, I think it was Miller's time out up 30 in the last 10 seconds to go for cheesesteaks that did it. The "Curse of the Cheesesteaks" remained on Miller to this day.

If I had to guess, I'd say that it wasn't his game, but either attitude or academics.
