Sorry if I missed this in an earlier posting:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1181576-earl y-c...

as an aside CJ was voted the #1 shooting guard in the same poll.

"A joy it will be one day, perhaps, to remember even this"

Nice article. I like the comment about locking Muscala in a weight room.

Muscala is called the #2 mid-major forward/center to watch by this blog.

"It's a shame more people don't get to watch the Patriot League, because they're missing out on Muscala, who does everything you want a center to do. He's an elite rebounder on both ends of the court. He draws a remarkable 6.9 fouls per 40 minutes (and makes over 85% from the line), he blocks shots, and he doesn't turn the ball over. On the season he averaged 17 points and 9.1 boards."

McCollum is #3 on the guard list :

"McCollum has been the star at Lehigh since he walked on campus. He averaged 19.1 ppg as a freshman, and bumped that to 21.9 this year. He also averaged 6.5 rebounds a game, and has made more than 80% of his FTs in all three seasons. Every team the Mountain Hawks play know that the ball is going to be in McCollum's hands, and still, he performs. The only reason he isn't in Canaan's league is that he's inconsistent from beyond the arc - 42% as a freshman, 32% as a sophomore and 34% as a junior."
POY will probably come down to Mike and CJ.

It will be lots of fun watching Bucknell & Lehigh duke it out this coming season. With both teams bringing back lots of talent, it might be the strongest 1-2 Punch in the PL since Holy Cross and Bucknell 6-7 years ago.

I wonder who will be the POY in 2012-2013?

Not sure, but I think I am confident that 100% of those who pick the winner will get the runner up as well.

Interestingly over the years it has been very hard to predict the PL POY. Prior to 2012 - where McCollum was both the preseason and actual POY (both likely by a close split vote) - it had been over a decade since the preseason poll correctly predicted the actual POY.

The preseason and actual POY's in recent years:

2011: McCollum (LU) >>> Muscala (BU)
2010: Hall (LU) >>> McCollum (LU)
2009: Carr (AU) >>> Mercer (AU)
2008: Clifford (HC) >>> Sprink (Na)
2007: McNaughton (BU) >>> Simmons (HC)
2006: McNaughton (BU) >>> Lee (BU)
2005: Ingram (AU) >>> Hamilton (HC)
2004: Meade (HC) >>> Rowland (LU)
2003: Szatko (HC) >>> Whearty (HC)
2002: Szatko (HC) >>> Doctor (AU)
2001: C. Williams (Na) >>> Szatko (HC)
2000: Ehlers (LC) >>> Ehlers (LC)

Comments:

1. Note that for the last 11 years, with only one exception (Sprink), every one of the 24 preseason and postseason POY's have been from BU, HC, LU, and AU.

2. Over an eight year span, there were four occasions when a teammate of the preseason pick ended up as POY (McCollum, Mercer, Lee, and Whearty).

Alumni weekend last Thur-Sunday had back to the campus, two very fine big men from past years. Tom Welsh was back in Lewisburg from California and he is 15 years out of school, time flies. Chris McNaughton was in attendance for his number 10 year reunion. He played in Germany this past season, however, his team didn't make the playoffs giving him a chance to return to Bucknell. It was nice to talk to these two really good players from the past and much more then that very fine people. Bucknell does turn out some neat young men and women, a tribute to the school. By the way both Tom and Crris were Scholar Athletes during their playing days.

Speaking of McNaughton, he just signed a contract to play for a different German team.

There is a story about Kevin Hamilton (HC) just below the one about McNaughton:
