Several outlets are reporting that Mike is the new coach. But they're all referring to the same report, tweeted by CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.
Now, Jeff Goodman is reporting that the hiring isn't official, and that the Brown AD (Hayes or Goldberger?) is saying that no decision has been made.
As I wrote in the other thread, I am a big fan of Mike's (blue and red colors aside), but would not be a fan of his being our new head coach.
Andy Glockner - he of si.com fame (and formerly of this board fame) - tweets he's surprised by this. Not because he's surprised Mike could get the job, but because he figured that after Penn runs the table the next few years (my words, not his), Martin would wait a few years and take a better offer. (Huh?)
Either way, confusion reigns. If he doesn't get the job, I will feel badly for Mike that this has happened; if he does get it, I'll feel surprised that Brown didn't choose a coach with more of a track record.

Seeing as this is now a reality you've got to contend with, what are your reservations?

Not real relevant now. I've said plenty on the subject in other threads. Nothing to do but support Mike and hope for the best. It is nice to have a successful alum return to the campus, and I am very happy for Mike and his family.
First job: figure out who on this team can play backup guard. The returning roster doesn't have much depth there. I'd swap some of our frontcourt depth if I could.

Matt Sullivan and Joe Sharkey can backup Sean for te few minutes a game he's not on the floor. I, too, am happy for Mike and perhaps more optimistic that Bruno about Brown's future. Mike's family will now save gas money and tolls, and Brown's home attendance will increase dramatically.

Do you mean that Mike's parents attending Brown games now increases the Brown attendance by 20% or so?
Who backs up the other guard slot? Longi? That's still pretty thin. Sullivan will start, and all it takes is one injury to either of our two unproven (Sharkey, Longi) backups.
But, Martin is getting a strong returing squad overall. Backup guard is really the only hole.
Let's hope the guys that remain stay put for the coaching change.

Not that who starts means who gets the most minutes, but I would think the starting 5 would be McCarthy, Maia, Halpern, Albrecht and McGonagill. With Ponticelli, Walker and Sullivan have all started at one time or another, and should see plenty of minutes. It will be fun to see who else earns time.
