Is anyone else having recurring connectivity problems with this site? I'm getting "server not available" fairly frequently. It is enough to make me wonder what we do if this forum were to become unavailable. Maybe we should have a board failure plan, even if it is simply to meet on Crossports and figure out what to do from there.

I've been having the same issues you describe. I would think in the summer when traffic is down there would not be as many issues, but that does not seem to be the case.

We've discussed in the past what might happen if the board would go away. I think as long as everyone checks out the other Patriot League sites, you should be able to find out where we move to if a move happens.

I have been experiencing Server Error problems for the last 2 weeks or so. It has been happening from my phone, tablet, and work PC so I know that it is not an issue on my end. I tried contacting the Webmaster at the email address shown, but the email came back as undeliverable.

I actually don't think anyone is minding the store here anymore, which is what prompted me to start the thread. This baby has the feeling of a sinking ship.

I agree. Someone must still be paying the bills on the domain registration and hosting, but there is certainly nothing being done to it other than that.

I do not necessarily believe it is just a summer thing with this site. Just looking the "Headlines" and "Wire" at the top of the page shows how much attention is paid to the upkeep of the site. Given this, I wonder how the Bison will be in 2010? I'd love for the season to result in an invitation to the Big Dance and to maybe even play at a nearby venue.

Tongue in cheek dig at the PL...I actually just raised the question of whether or not there is a need for a league-wide board at Crossports.

I've been wondering the same thing. As a possible backup, here is one suggestion. A couple weeks ago, I made a very initial setup of a Bucknell board on the same server used by the Lafayette site. I'm not planning to go forward and make it a live site unless this site crashes for good. However people may want to bookmark it, since I would go forward if this board is no longer available. Address is:

http://bucknellbison.myfreeforum.org/

Also if this site ever crashes permanently, I can be reached at Bison137@aol.com for more info.

If anyone else wants to set up a site - or help with the above if need be - I'd be happy to step down. But if not, then at least there is an alternative.

2012-13 Attendance: 19 games and 8,354 miles driven.

Thanks 137. I've got it bookmarked. Already it looks better than this forum (although this one has served us well for 7 years now)

Is there any way to move the historical postings from this board to a new board?

It would be a shame to lose all of the history, insights and analysis that a number of dedicated posters provided to this board...

I've bookmarked it too, just in case. However, I hope this board continues to remain active. It's taken me more than six years to become a junior, which I believe I achieved with this post. Now I'm worried that I may never graduate.

Brings to mind ANIMAL HOUSE

Bluto: Christ. Seven years of college down the drain. Might as well join the f****** Peace Corps.

I like the way this board works, when it works, which is most of the time. It's easy to navigate, has chat available, and lots of history, as JPM points out. A desperation back-up makes sense, I guess, but I vote for staying here unless there's a disaster.

nobody is talking about leaving here as long as this board is functioning, but since it is obvious that nobody is actively administering this board, a backup plan is a good idea. some of us remember the voy board that we used to be on that would crash for days on end, leading to the move over here.

Sorry this is happening with the timeouts and server errors. Rest assured there is still someone looking out for these boards. We're working with the webhost to identify the problem. We've previously only seen this sort of thing during the absolute peak traffic times like during the NCAA Tournament, so for it to be happening in the summer is perplexing for everyone involved. We'll update as we know more.

Administrator, thank you. This has been going on for over a month. If we ever need to notify you about a problem, how can we do so?

If the Contact Us form on here isn't working (which will happen if the server is having issues like has been the case), you can always email admin@basketball-u.com with any concerns.

And now for a possibly positive update:
After a number of promising theories on the server issues proved to be dead ends, we think we may have identified the real issue (a malicious bot from Germany doing what appears to be some sort of hack/attack). This morning we took some measures that we think may remedy this situation. We should show if this worked very soon, as performance should return to normal levels within 24 hours.
