The 2013-14 season has finally come to a non speedy enough conclusion. And it is one for the record books. Cornell shatters the school record for losses in a season with 26. The old record of 23 dates back to only season where there was an in-season change in coaches. The last time Cornell finished with 2 or fewer wins was 107 years ago when the Big Red finished 1-11-2. That was before the school hired a coach. It's the fifth 1-13 Ivy season in school history, the other four happened in a row between 1970-74.

As has been written numerous times, the defense was the main culprit. A DRAT of 121.3 is so jaw-droppingly bad that it is hard to comprehend. I don't think there was a single game all season where the Red held their opponent to under one point per possession. In a stat where a 1% increase or decrease means passing 10-20 teams, Cornell was more than 10% worse than anyone else in the league. The gap between the best and next to last defense in the league is just barely larger than the gap between 7th and Cornell.

There was literally nothing Cornell did well on defense, but the opposing shooting percentages boggle the mind. Over 54% from inside the arc and over 41% from behind. For the season. That's like facing Creighton every night. I've seen the reports that say 3 point defense is an illusion, but after watching the Red give up wide open looks all season, I have to think that at the far reaches of the bell curve you just run into teams that don't know how to defend.

In comparison, the offense looked great. Sure, we were below the national average and 7th in the league, but we were capable of having a decent night on offense. Basically if Cressler was shooting well, Cornell was reasonably efficient. If not, we had no chance of keeping pace with what the defense allowed.

Despite all the claims of recruiting to build an uptempo team, only Columbia played to a slower tempo in league games than we did. I get the math, honest I do, but asking Devin Cherry (whose one elite skill is the ability to beat everyone down the floor in transition) to run a patient offense seems destined to fail.

And whoever does Cornell's scheduling, stop it. It ain't 2010 anymore. These guys need a parade of easy marks to remember how to win again, not the 5-6 "BCS" games that are rumored to be on our schedule for next season.

All of that and you have to live in West Virginia to boot.

My condolences.

Don't throw stones, man. Our house is constructed entirely of very thin glass.

Just shows how delusional Courtney is. Maybe they are going to fire him and will use the extra guarantee games to cover his contract. We can only hope, another year with Courtney is just a waste of everyone's time. He has to be the worst coach in D1

We can only hope but I think he can get a better job and why would he want to come back? He wont be able to accomplish more at Cornell than he already did

You really dont think any other schools want to hire Donahue?

With Cressler leaving they need to fire Courtney and hire Donahue now before Miller leaves
