The Sporting News (SN) can be added to the list of released college basketball previews. In SN’s 2005-2006 preview, Cornell is picked for 4th place in the Ivy, thereby echoing the prediction of Athlon’s and Lindy’s. The Ivy League section was prepared by Mark Eckel of the Trenton Times. Only Chuck Newman, a Philadelphia based writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer and a correspondent for Street & Smith’s picked Cornell worse off-- 6th place. However, even Newman acknowledged Cornell’s potential to be a title contender.
Of note, SN, just as Lindy’s, Athlon’s and Street & Smith’s picked Lenny Collins as a 1st Team All Ivy Performer. Also from the SN preview, Eckel projected Cornell’s starting five to be Gant, Dow, Collins, Rourke and Jason Hartford with Collins potentially leading the league in scoring. Eckel also suggested that Cornell could be a contender to finish among the top two teams again.
