The JSBL has a Facebook page where they posted rosters - not a lot of recognizable names. A commenter noted there were no Rutgers or Seton Hall players listed. Spencer Weisz was the only Princeton name I saw, probably because he's a local kid.

My understanding from reliable sources is that none of our players have filed the necessary paperwork to play in any summer league(s). Accordingly, my conclusion is that they are not doing so. No one seems to know if they are playing in any informal "pick-up" games among themselves or involving players from the other Philly schools or otherwise.

It appears that Rutgers, after fielding full teams in the JSBL the past 3 years, did not do so this year and only has one guy playing. Princeton, however, has 4 guys in the league, FDU 4, RI 3, Wagner 2 and the big leader, Monmouth--9

Sounds like this summer should be about as productive as that joke of an Italy trip was last year. Right in line with everything else we've been seeing and hearing.

That said, the issue of non-communication with and disrespect for the fan base is valid and it is an ongoing topic of discussion away from this message board.

It's something...I guess. But I sure won't hold my breath. I do however have to laugh at any Penn poster attempting to defend this stuff. Stu can come right out and say communication is a problem but others would rather attack p38.

I'll ask again: which schools publicize their basketball players' summer league play?

So far the answer is the Duke and Seton Hall baseball teams.

There may well be communication issues, but this particular subject is not an example of it.

Tony Hicks at least appears to be on campus, I assume to take summer session classes, based on this tweet from a few weeks ago.

How about we rephrase the question to ask "which schools don't have their players competing in summer league games?" I understand that you like to bust his stones and this was another way to do that, but it comes across as you defending an organization that deserves no defending. You took one small part of his post, completely ignored the pertinent part, and then hijacked the thread to talk NCAA rules and communicating. I think people are a little more concerned over the fact that we seemingly have no summer league players and the Dept/new AD has been completely incommunicado on everything, not just something small like this.

According to this release from the NCAA, the Delco league (apparently re-named the Media Pro Am League) was originally certified, then had its certification withdrawn.

Do we know, given that Penn players had been on teams in this league in the recent past, if this was the league they were planning to play in? Did the yanking of the certification affect those plans? Note: you're not going to get this information from anyone other than the kids themselves, since the program and coaches can't be involved in these summer leagues.

Where do the Harvard kids play? There's no certified summer league in the Boston area that I can see.

Where did the Rutgers kids end up, since they're not in JSBL as they have been historically? (The one kid listed as a Rutgers affiliate, Zack Hoffman, does not appear to have ever been on the Rutgers roster - he was supposedly going to be a Division II player at Chestnut Hill, according to this article from a few years, but he didn't play there either.)

Stu, nice to know the coaching staff is interested in our board.

Chip

It was made pretty clear at the post season brunch that the Penn players were not going to be participating in the Delco league this summer. I'm pretty sure this predated the league's certification issues.

I'm disturbed that Stu was asked not to comment on the boards about summer play. I completely understand why everyone is guarded about recruits. There is no need to tip the team's hand and furthermore there may be recruiting violations.

But commenting about summer league play? It's not coach Allen or the Administration's business what any of us have to say about that. Even with Stu's association with the team, a few comments are harmless. I have not bought into all of the criticism that others have had - I don't expect the team to disclose injuries and such. But the dome of silence in this case is ridiculous.

This involves so much more silence that a Dome was necessary.

The reasons for the non-participation in the Delco league were not mentioned at the brunch. I could speculate but prefer to stick to facts.

I am going to hope against hope that we will reject the role of "turkey" in this contest, but I am not optimistic.
