Princeton news release
Penn at Princeton, 5:00 pm, Sat. Jan. 10
Princeton at Penn, time TBA, Tue. Mar. 10
Niagara news release
Penn at Niagara, time TBA, Tue. Jan. 13
Monmouth news release
Monmouth at Penn, time TBA, Wed. Jan. 21
This publicly identifies 25 of the 28 permitted games. One of the remaining three games will be against Villanova, a Penn home game this year.
The reading period begins on Wednesday, January 10. We already have a game scheduled for Monday, January 8 (Marist). The second week in December, the customary date of the Penn - Villanova game appears unavailable. Are we likely to end up with Saturday December 27, or Saturday, January 3?

Either of those dates will result in all-Villanova crowds. But then again, that's what you have to expect even if Penn is in session.

The reading period begins on Wednesday, January 10.
Thank god this is a typo. As bad as Penn basketball has gotten, I'm not sure I could live with a Princeton like exam schedule.
Might as well then hire Brian Earl and adopt the System. End it all sort of thing.

And they keep the post-holiday exam schedule just to p.iss everyone off. I know that at this point, I would just as soon pair with Columbia for a few years. It screws up our schedule and let's face it, no student ever wants to have to return after vacation to face final exams.

I thought you were talking about Princeton's reading period. We still are playing Princeton in January, even though the Marist game is in December, right?

Thanks for the info, Stu. There is some talk about opening the season on Saturday, November 15th with a yet to be named opponent. Hopefully, we'll see a full schedule soon.

To clarify:
Marist at Penn is Monday, December 8
The Penn reading period begins Wednesday, December 10.
Except for national telecasts, Villanova usually plays all of their Big 5 games in December. When will the Villanova at Penn game be scheduled given the absence of available dates before the Penn exam period?
Penn at Princeton is Saturday, January 10.

Good morning,
As a valued supporter of Penn Athletics, we cannot say thank you enough for supporting our student-athletes. As a token of our appreciation, it is our pleasure to share with you the 2014-2015 Penn Men’s Basketball schedule below, before it is released to the public later this afternoon. We are excited to support Coach Allen and his team and we look forward to seeing all of you in the Palestra this season!
Just as a reminder, season tickets are currently on sale for the 2014-15 season and fans can call the Penn Athletics Ticket Office at 215-898-6151.
Thank you again for all that you do to support Penn Athletics.
Go Quakers!
PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania’s John R. Rockwell Head Coach of Men’s Basketball, Jerome Allen W’09, has announced the program’s 2014-15 schedule. The Quakers will play a 28-game slate, with 14 of those games at The Palestra.
“We are excited about the upcoming season,†said Allen, who enters his fifth full season at the Penn helm. “I think our 2014-15 schedule exemplifies the sense of standard that has been associated with this national program. Although we are preparing for the upcoming season, our effort and concentration does not go past opening night. We are already looking forward to getting started on November 15.â€
Prior to the start of the regular season, the Penn men’s and women’s basketball programs will host the annual Red & Blue Scrimmages on Saturday, Oct. 25. In addition to the usual scrimmages by both of the current teams, a new twist has been added as the annual alumni game will also take place that day. (In previous years the alumni game has been held on an Ivy League weekend.)
Penn will once again host two Philadelphia Big 5 games this season; after playing its first two on the road at Temple (Tuesday, Nov. 25) and La Salle (Tuesday, Dec. 30), the Quakers will host Villanova (Saturday, Jan. 17) and Saint Joseph’s (Saturday, Jan. 24) on back-to-back Saturdays ahead of Ivy League weekend play.
Penn and Princeton will renew their rivalry at the Tigers’ Jadwin Gym on Saturday, Jan. 10, with the rematch coming as always on the Tuesday after the final Ivy weekend (March 10).
Penn jumps right into the fire on the Ivy League’s opening weekend, January 30-31, as Dartmouth and defending champion Harvard come to The Palestra to test the Quakers. Penn is at Cornell and Columbia the following weekend (Feb. 6-7), before returning home to host Yale and Brown (Feb. 13-14).
Penn is on the road for consecutive Ivy weekends after that, hitting Harvard and Dartmouth (Feb. 20-21) and then Brown and Yale (Feb. 27-28). The Quakers will be home for their final three Ivy League games, hosting Columbia and Cornell (March 6-7) before the March 10 finale with Princeton.
The Quakers will open the 2014-15 season with Delaware State on Saturday, Nov. 15, the first of five games the Quakers will play in November. Penn hosts Rider on Tuesday, Nov. 18, and then Lafayette on Saturday, Nov. 22. The first road trip will be up Broad to face Temple, and then on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend Penn is at Wagner.
Penn opens December play at Navy on Wednesday, Dec. 3, and follows it up with a trip to Binghamton to face the Bearcats on Saturday, Dec. 6. Marist comes to The Palestra on Tuesday, Dec. 9 in the last game before fall-term exams. Following exams, the Quakers travel to Nashville to face SEC foe Vanderbilt in the Commodores’ famed Memorial Gymnasium on Monday, Dec. 22.
Penn has slotted two other games that are not Big 5 or Ivy League contests in January, traveling to Niagara on Tuesday, Jan. 13 and hosting Monmouth on Wednesday, Jan. 21.

Odd schedule. Only 1 home game between 11/22 until 1/17---December 9 against Marist. I don't think I have ever seen an almost 60 day period in season with only 1 home game.

Is it unusual that ALL the opponents are pretty much "local" or at least regional, with no preliminarily "ranked" opponents either?

We have discussed that at length here...although Villanova almost certainly will be ranked. The schedule is a far cry from what Penn used to put together, and reflects a jumbled attempt to find games at the last minute.
