i mean who cares. We're not trying to get seeded here. as long as we all agree to judge progress by kenpom or sagarin and not raw W/L, we'll be fine.

Can't argue with Jeff. Furthermore, from the perspective of a fan, this coming season will almost certainly be more entertaining if we play an easier schedule. Perhaps we'll actually pick up a few wins. Leave the tough schedules for when we actually have a respectable team again.

As a season ticket holder, I do value the quality of the teams that we see. With this schedule, I see not much interest developing, especially with 1 home game in 2 months. My question is why are we always looking for games in August before the season? Why haven't we worked out deals with teams who might want to recruit in our area and want their recruits to see them at the Palestra? It's almost as if scheduling has been an afterthought.

2014-2015 schedule 09-02-14 01:58 PM - Post#172491

I think the program is quite organizationally deficient. Running a D1 men's basketball program is a pretty big administrative challenge. The coaching staff, administrative staff and athletic department staff don't seem to be up to the job. From the haphazard scheduling, to the embarrassingly botched Italy trip last summer, to the amateurish marketing efforts, to the lack of attention to player development, to many of the other problems, a lot of the team's woes are probably traceable to administrative incompetence.

Marketing? What marketing? I've seen CYO teams with more customer awareness than this. One home game in two months?! If that doesn't tell you what this coach thinks of students and his fellow alumni than what will?

2014-2015 schedule 09-02-14 07:55 PM - Post#172510

I got a good laugh when I saw your post--the "chit" they give you as a season ticket holder is a few hours "heads up" on the schedule that us bumbling Sherlock Holmes types had managed to figure out already (well, maybe 95% of it, anyways).
They must take you for a fool. Seriously.

I think it's more a case of administrative indifference (at the top), more than incompetence.

Thanks for the "compliment", PN. You know I considered just putting the dates of the games but decided to give the whole message. I see that some can't be trusted to read it and understand that the comment is no doubt a reaction to the fact that they sent the renewal applications without a schedule. It's a face saving maneuver.

As (I think) we have discussed previously on this board, the issue is that Drexel's coach will only play us in a home and home series with their home game at the DAC rather than both games at the Palestra as has been done in the past. The exception was when we played Drexel in that 24 hour ESPN first day thing a few years ago.

Really? I don't know about you, but I felt deeply honored that I received the official schedule a few hours before everyone else. That and the free popcorn and Palestra Illustrated coupons that come with the season ticket make it all worthwhile, even if the soda is flat.

Well, it's more like both. The indifference at the top means they tolerate the incompetence within the program.

I think this is what happens when we're about to see the Titanic sail alongside the fact that all of our baseball teams are out of the running, or nearly so.
We get punch drunk when we see what's on the menu of the Titanic.

The sentence that really got to me, from the email that Steve posted earlier:
"I think our 2014-15 schedule exemplifies the sense of standard that has been associated with this national program."
Delaware State, Ryder, Lafayette, Wagner, Navy, Binghamton, Marist, Vanderbilt, Niagara and Monmouth.
Says a lot.

Yup. And the truly horrifying part of it is trying to believe we even get a winning record from those 10 games.
But, it seems odd to me that the head coach "...has announced the program's 2014-15 schedule." (Did You-know-who or Dunph ever "announce the schedule?")
My personal opinion is that she's already hanging him out to dry. And she made him write his own copy.
"...sense of standard..." At least I hope it's the John R Rockwell fellow who wrote that and not someone who's paid to - oh never mind.
Rather than a sense of standard, I long for a whiff of competence.
