Georgetown started with a 17-0 run then lost their edge and let Penn State gradually close the gap. PSU got it to 42-39 then Georgetown picked up their intensity and pulled away behind Jeff Green and Brandon Bowman.
I cannot imagine how Penn State scored 83 at Rutgers. Their shooters are easily guardable and cannot create their own shots. Their big man is strong and has some nice post moves but is not especially tall or a great leaper, so he has to have or create space to get off a shot.
Georgetown had 12 steals, 11 blocks, and held PSU to 32% shooting.
JTIII won with essentially a three-man team. Junior f Bowman scored 28 with 6 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 blocks. Freshman c Green had 18 points, 10 rebounds, 6 blocks. Freshman pg Jonathan Wallace scored 10. Those three were 21-33 from the floor, 6-12 from 3. The rest of the team was 5-24, 0-10 and most of those were wide open looks. The other guards did contribute a few assists and steals, but otherwise were not very sharp. Georgetown has enough athletes to pull a couple of upsets when the team is clicking, but they also probably will have off nights and drop a couple of games they should win. They run the Princeton offense fairly well and had a few back doors for dunks and open threes off cuts and ball movement, but you can tell it is still new to them. At times they telegraphed passes for easy steals. Against Penn State Bowman and Green were able to make one-on-one moves when isolated. They won't be able to do that against some of the teams they play, such as #1 Illinois coming to DC on Thursday.

Dig the backdoor slam.

It may not be pretty, but Illinois-Georgetown will be on DirecTV, ESPN Full Court, Thursday night at 7:30.
