So coach Henderson has announced that we are playing the Maryland Terrapins this coming season in Baltimore at "the arena" (I think it is currently Royal Farms Arena).

I would love to know the date now, so I can make sure I can attend.

Anyone have any ideas how to find out the date?

Maryland has a monster team next year--potentially a pre-season number one in the country ranking. All five starters could conceivably be in the NBA the following year.

On second thought maybe I DO NOT want to attend the game .

Tentatively December 19.

Yikes. Well, can't complain about underscheduling with that one.

Early in the 2001-2002 season a struggling 1-3 Princeton team faced Maryland in the DCI "Classic". I drove down from Baltimore with my U of Maryland wife to see the rare local game. Princeton played a superb first half and led by 7 points or so at half. We confined to dominate well into the second half until, IMHO, a few questionnable homer calls sparked MD to a comeback 8 point win. Princeton recovered to nearly win the Ivies (losing the first round of a 3 -way playoff between Yale, Penn and us).

Maryland went on to win the NCAA Championship.

They owe us.

I hope they do better than the 2010-11 team did against a highly ranked (#1 or #2 ??) Duke team with Kyrie Irving, Nolan Smith, Kyle Singler, 2 Plumlees, etc., in November 2010. The final was 97-60 at Cameron. At least it seems this game will be played on a "neutral" court.

Well, if it was in Cameron, Duke starts off with a 15 point lead.

I remember a Duke game where the Tigers were doing OK until Luol Deng went off. It's tough to contain those NBA-type guys.

We played Maryaland in '98 here in Baltimore. Laron Profit beat us almost single handedly. Couldn't make the game, which is why I worked so hard to find out the date for the upcoming game.

I was at the DCI classic as well. Beautiful game. I think we lost because of Lonnie Baxter. We did well agains Juan Dixon and Steve Blake at guard. Taj Holden got back-doored so much he had a deer in the headlights look in his eyes. Gary Williams looked like a man about to have a stroke most of the game. Of course he always looked like that.

I was also in Cameron for a game with Duke, Joe Scott's first year. The little-dookies taunted Will Venable with chants of "you can't dunk" before the game. (They fancied themselves so clever it made me want to puke.)

We held our own for the first half, got blown out the second. Venable dunked a couple times I think.

Highlight was a guy who held up poster saying Duke was his #3 choice for college: Princeton #1, CAROLINA #2. The crowd looked a little stunned, as I recall.

Low point was the guy behind me asking me not to wave my pom-poms when Princeton scored--they obstructed his view.

Hope there is a good Princeton turnout for this game.

Ol' Will was a better athlete than most D-I guards, and it showed up early and often when he played the big-timers. The Texas guards couldn't stay in front of him at all.

A recent article on the Ivy Hoops Online website seems to confirm the Maryland-Princeton tilt on December 19 at Royal Farms Arena:

http://ivyhoopsonline.com/2015/05/31/reunions-c ele...

It also provides exciting news for Tiger69, who has been calling for a return to Dillon Gym. Well, according to the article, the Tigers will face off against St. Peter's (NJ) in an early season game at Dillon Gym, complete with short (pre Fab 5) shorts, showing off hairy legs. Good luck with the parking.

Interesting comments about the "cost of attendance adjustment," which I was not familiar with.

YES The last time I saw a game in Dillon I was a sophomore and the highly touted freshmen included Geoff Petrie, John Hummer and Mike Mardy.

In November I shall be in the East and will do everything I can to see another game in Dillon. Let's make that place shake!

Not that this was in doubt, but 12/19 date confirmed by U Maryland: Sun article

This is looking like a potentially brutal game.

True, we shall almost certainly lose. But, we shall be far enough into the season to have some cohesiveness and enough confidence to learn some things from top competition.

I like the line in the Sun article that they were looking for "a more formidable opponent". Ouch. Just wishing we could make them eat those words.

Is this a "guarantee game"? Are we getting paid to show up and lose?

I certainly hope that the Terps are expecting us to show up and lose. Like Harvard and Princeton did with Florida State a couple of years ago.

Would be weird to see real players running up and down the Dillon courts where my (poor) intramural team once frolicked. It had been a pretty long time since Jadwin had opened even back then--this is some real throwback stuff.
