Brodeur is supposed to be an energy guy who works very hard on both ends. He'll probably play at 225 when all is said and done.

Add him to both Auger and Rothschild and I think we have a trio of 6-8 players who will not be afraid to get after it.

I'd like to see a true 5 in this class. McManus looks like he is also a hustle guy with a lot of upside but DNH will be gone after this year and it would be nice to have 2 legit 5's even though one of the PF types , including Dwyer, could provide minutes as a 5.

I'm really interested in whether Donahue can get something out of DNH this year. I really feel for the kid and hope he can have one of those great senior year development years that we occasionally see in this league.

I know it's not the time to talk expectations (record-wise) quite yet, but I want to see how EVERYONE looks with a coach who actually knows what he's doing. I think we all agree we're going to see major improvement, and it just adds to the misery that was the last few years. I feel bad for the seniors who will only get one year of this. It's still scary how closely the Phillies situation mirrored this one. Everyone knew that those in place were/are incompetent, and yet it was allowed to go on year after year. I'm just glad that my annual season ticket donation goes towards real basketball excitement again and not just just being thankful that we have the best gym and band around.

We all agree we're going to see major improvement? We all hope to see this, but I don't agree that it is anywhere near a sure thing.

I guarantee it. I count 4 games we lost last year with bad coaching (Del. St., Lafayette, Wagner and the first Princeton game), a bunch of other games where the team simply did not show up (among others, the home Yale and Monmouth games and away Harvard game were the most embarrassed I have ever been to be a Penn fan when I attended a game). We had a 7 game Ivy losing streak at one point.

I guarantee that we will win more close games, show up for all games and not lose 7 in a row in the Ivies. Thus, I guarantee that we will improve because we simply are not as bad in terms of talent as was our record.

I agree we will improve. But the term use was "major improvement". I agree to minor improvement and maybe even lieutenant improvement. I'm not ready to stipulate to major just yet.

I have to agree. We'll probably only flirt with the major next year. The following season we might be seen fraternizing with a colonel.

It all depends on what Donahue gets out of Hicks and DNH. We got serious underperformance from those guys last year when the freshmen should great promise. Assuming last year's freshmen continue to improve, we could flirt with Major Improvement if Hicks and DNH give us what we expected from them as seniors 2 years ago.

They were one of the youngest teams in the nation last year, 323 out of 351 D-I teams in experience. Merely being a year older should make a difference.

Absolutely. But the freshmen performed admirably. The upper classmen?

... will be helped by the freshmen becoming sophomores.

Why? I think we have been remarkably mild in our criticism. The blame has primarily gone to Bilsky, who deserves every drop of bile. But is it unreasonable to predict a better finish due to better coaching this year?

I think you usually get a bump with a coaching change, regardless of whether you even get better coaching. So my expectation is that we will see a significant improvement next season. What happens in years 2-4 will be a lot more telling about where we will go under Donahue.

Nice to see we'll soon have a decent complement of actual shooters. And good point guards, to boot.

Oh, I don't think there's any question that Stevie D will have a potent offensive team. It's the fact that he's never coached a team that has finished in the top half of the nation in defensive efficiency that is the problem.

His final BC team was vintage Donahue. Finished 30th in the nation in offensive efficiency and 298th in defensive efficiency.

If you can make enough threes, though, you can outscore the layup line going on at the other end.
