ESPN debuts Harvard at No. 10 after Scout debuted Harvard at No. 25. ESPN is the only recruiting service right now that has all of Harvard's commits listed, though I still think No. 10 is a little high.

247Sports still has Harvard as the favorite to land Bryce Aiken. ESPN doesn't even list Harvard among his 9 options.

Well, if I know one thing for sure, it's that 247Sports is definitely closer to the truth than ESPN on that one...

I'm told Bryce Aiken will announce this Friday his choice of higher education and more importantly to this forum his place to start dribbling the rock. Given that he was supposed to visit Michigan Oct. 10, and chooses to announce his choice the 9th, would bode very well for the Harvard hardwoods as his chosen arena. Early Congrats to Amaker, what a class you have put together!

Harvard Has No. 10 2016 Recruiting Class at ESPN 10-08-15 08:30 AM - Post#192938
In response to mrjames
Couldn't this decision have been made a month ago, one way or the other? There seems to be a desire (agents, aau coaches etc?) to draw this selection drama out as long as possible, and I don't get the idea that it has much to do with actual evaluation of the alternatives. mrjames ... whats really going on in these cases?
Did all these kids and their advisors take their cue from Lebron James that you're not a big star until the networks have a special show featuring your selection? All we need to hear is that "Bryce will be taking his talents to South Florida (or Philly, or Cambridge) next year."

HA!
Yeah, I know a lot of people really don't like this new era of school press conferences (many of which are televised), and I go back and forth on it. On the one hand, if a kid is that talented and worked that hard, it's hard, as a teenager, not to want to take advantage of that to be able to do something really cool. On the other hand, it has that psuedo-pro kind of feel to it that seems to be invading the college game, and it can cause people to believe that it's more about "athlete" than "student."
The agent/shoe game is more of a Top 25 recruit thing, so that hasn't really been an issue for the Ivies (yet?), but the AAU coach side of things is certainly prevalent. I will say that it's pretty rare to have a decision that will be announced in one of these scheduled reveals conveyed to the schools in the running any more than a few days before it's announced publicly.
Also, around this time of year sometimes decisions that seem like they could have happened a month ago are often delayed by the conveyance of a likely letter (first day those can be released is 10/1).

I was wondering - if its Harvard - if a cautious applicant would want to have his app reviewed and accepted, and the financial aid amount confirmed, all of which might take a few days after October 1.

Great pickup. This is an amazing class. I can't wait to see them. It will be interesting to see how PG time is split between Chambers, Aiken and McCarthy next year.
Looking at Robert Baker and Chris Lewis (both listed as power forwards), Baker looks very thin and more of a finesse player, while Lewis is more of a beast. This article lists Lewis at 6'9" (though 247, espn, and scout list him at 6'8") and still growing:
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/31/sports/nca abaske...
(funny, the nyt article also notes that we beat out MIT for Lewis)
So I imagine we might see Baker at the 4 position and perhaps-a-bit-taller Lewis filling the 5 position. Is that what you guys envision?

Here's a fun way to look at Harvard for 2016-17, based on the highest rank from F150, 247Sports, Rivals, Scout or ESPN:
PG: 4-star (Aiken), 3-star (Chambers), 3-star (McCarthy)
SG: 3-star (Chatfield), 3-star (Johnson), 3-star (Miller)
SF: 4-star (Towns), 3-star (Bassey), 3-star (Perez)
PF: 4-star (Baker), 3-star (Myers), 3-star (Dragovic)
C: 4-star (Lewis), 4-star (Zena), 4-star (Egi)
Regardless of what winds up happening, that is a level of recruiting that this league hasn't seen in the AI era and it's not particularly close.

Your point is still valid but I Johnson, Perez and Dragovic (as well as arguably Miller) are not 3 star players.

Observations:
Don't underestimate Corey Johnson.
What happened to Andre Chatfield?
Chris Egi is likely a 4, not a 5

My prediction is that Harvard will play a decent amount with 2 out of Chambers, McCarthy, and Aiken on the floor in 2016-17 (kind of like they did with Chambers and Curry). That presumes that McCarthy plays a lot this year and plays well (kind of like Chambers did in Curry's year off).
Also, I know Mike's listing is mainly about getting 3 big recruits at every spot, but I think Harvard will play quite a bit with 2 out of the guys at the 5 (Zena, Egi, Lewis) on the floor at once, as well.
This year, though, is trickier. I think the offense struggles with Zena, Egi, and Okolie all playing at once, but without Chambers it seems like all three ought to be in your top five guys. Harvard's still got the most talent, but it is hard to see how it all fits together in a cohesive offensive unit.
Next year, Amaker's problem may be that there are too many possibilities.

Stars are a very rough way to do this, and using the "highest" star rating is even fishier. As our good friend BRF used to say, looking at offers is probably more accurate. My belief is that it's even better to look at visits, where possible.
From that perspective, Johnson and Miller are probably true "3-stars" because they had Butler and Utah/BYU offers, respectively.
McCarthy, Perez and Dragovic had exclusively mid-major offers, while Bassey and Myers are sort of in that nebulous zone between the two.
