Columbia and Princeton both get more first place votes than Yale, but finish 2nd and 3rd, respectively, which suggests a higher degree of variance. Brown is ranked higher than in any of the other polls I've seen. But most of all, after losing Duren, I still don't understand why such high expectations hover around Yale.

Sears is one of the two best players in the league, along with Lo. Those two get the most POY and first team all Ivy votes. Rosenberg comes in third in first team all Ivy votes.

Ivy Media Poll 10-21-15 02:33 PM - Post#193611

The basic theory is that Yale's replacements all played at a similar efficiency level to Duren. So there may not be much offensive dropoff. A lot rides on Makai Mason staying healthy and at least maintaining his level from last year.
It's not unlike last year for Columbia. Odd as it may seem, the offense didn't suffer without Rosenberg. That's not to say it won't be better with him.

I know. You said this before about Mason. Maybe you're right, but it's exactly that issue that I'm dubious about.

Just so you know cc, SomeGuy and I had a lengthy discussion (with Mike James on his side) on Yale over on the Penn board. I think Yale will suffer a significant dropoff--he does not. We'll see.

Brown lost only Maia, who played injured most of the season. If the can stay healthy, they should do better than most of the predictions on this board. Kuakumensah will deserve first team consideration.

P38, you can't win. I'm already figuring out how I'm going to argue that Yale was just "unlucky" when they go 6-8 in the league without Duren.

Of course I saw your debate with SomeGuy. (I'm terribly hurt that you think I would miss anything on the Penn board!). That's part of what informs my opinion. Although I know they think that Mason will
maintain his same high efficiency ratings, I doubt that he can replace Duren, whose role in Yale's success last year was greatly underestimated.

I'm glad that the media have Princeton dragging along at third. A little extra chip on the shoulder would do this group some good if they can translate it into extra effort on defense and fighting for the 50-50 balls.
Anyone counting on the EnigmaLions to perform consistently in the league must have been watching a different team the last few years. Yale is definitely worrying if they can make up for the loss of Duren's traffic directing abilities.

I picked Princeton for first in another thread. Although Columbia has more variability and might squeak by, Princeton is the best balanced team in the league.
You make Columbia's performance sound puzzling, when injuries actually explain most of it--Agho's season-ending injury three years ago, and then last year, the loss of both Rosenberg and Mullins. Lo and Rosenberg should both be first-team All Ivy, and squads with two first-team All-ivy players rarely fall below second place.

I agree...

I don't think he meant puzzling, more like heart-breaking when a team with such promise tends to "fade in the stretch." Columbia is my #2 fave after my alma mater. All teams have key players injured, or lost for the year, and C has had a knack for later season collapses, after great starts. At least I think that's what SRP meant.
P.S. I think the poll way over-rated Yale.. It's clearly (to me) a Princeton/Columbia dual, with exactly as you say, cc...Columbia higher variance, Princeton more balanced. Tortoise vs. Hare?
