Is Miller the best defensive player in the history of the world? Without him in 2013-14, Cornell had the worst defense in division I. He came back for 2014, and they went from last in the league to 1st -- and from 351st nationally to 32nd. Where are they now without him? Right back to 307.

Or am I underestimating Galal Cancer?

No one ever loves Galal....

While you are pondering that, take a look at the ORat's for Miller and Cancer this season compared to what they did at Cornell.

Different level, but Denton Koon is doing great as well.

Yep, and... take a look at the numbers for Rafael Maia (limited numbers for Pitt) and Galal Cancer for Kent St. The Ivy Grad Transfer team is pretty nasty.

Cancer was a plus perimeter defender, and is absolutely part of the story. But I'm also perplexed by Cornell's wild swings on defense. Especially when you see a team like Harvard, which also lost two star defenders but has still been quite good on that end.

Well, Harvard did return Okolie, which is a great start to a good defense.

Harvard's always had some nice length too, which leads to a lot of blocks and a lot of strong defensive rebounding. And he always preaches defending without fouling. You can achieve those goals with similar personnel and don't necessarily need the same personnel.
