Cornell could go for Johnny Dawkins (just released from Stanford).

Good idea to hire former Dukie Johnny Dawkins at Cornell to compete with Tommy Amaker. Then, we could begin to fill each new Ivy league coaching opening with another Coach K coaching tree prodigy, such as Ohio State assistant coach Greg Paulus or Associate Duke Coach, Jeff Capel.
Naturally, we would need to bring in beloved Dukie and former Atlanta Hawks General Manager Danny Ferry to be in charge of PC Quality Control within the Ivy League.

Maybe Dawkins and Amaker can trade gigs.

Any news on the coaching search? Columbia lost and replaced their coach quickly.

Compared to Columbia, it has been a much slower process.
On 3/22/16, Mid Major Madness had heard that Zach Spiker (Army Head Coach and former SD Assistant at Cornell), Nat Graham (Penn Asst and former SD Assistant at Cornell & BC) and Ron Everhart (West Virginia Assistant; former Duquesne and Northeastern Head Coach) were being considered.
On 3/22/16 a writer at t he Ithaca Journal threw out some names that could be considered - Joe Burke (Skidomore Head Coach, former SD Assistant at Cornell), Jim Engles (NJIT), Nat Graham, Marlon Sears (Montclair State Head Coach, former Bill Courtney Assistant at Cornell and former Joe Jones Assistant at Columbia), Scott Pera (Associate Head Coach at Rice, former Jerome Allen Assistant at Penn) and Jay Young (Steve Pikiell Assistant at Stony Brook).
The recent hirings of Engles (Columbia) and Spiker (Drexel) eliminate them from going to Cornell.
On 3/31/16, The Cornell Basketball Blog twitter account mentioned that Nat Graham is being interviewed in Houston by AD Andy Noel. While Graham may not be the only person interviewed, it is the only name that has been discussed publicly.

From Hoopdirt today:
I have heard from a great source that on-campus interviews are underway at Cornell in the search to replace Bill Courtney. The three names that I have heard here are: Billy Taylor (assistant coach Iowa / former head coach Ball State and Lehigh), Brian Earl (associate head coach Princeton), and Tom Billeter (head coach Augustana / DII National Champions). There may also be 1-2 more coaches making campus visits. It sounds like the interviews will be wrapped up by the end of the week.

I think it's pretty bad to go into the open evaluation period with no coach in place. The search here and at Dartmouth is taking very long and not helping in recruiting.

While I wish only the best for Brian Earl, I'd hate to lose him to a conference foe. But if he got an offer I wouldn't be surprised if he took it.

That is a very good choice for them. I guess he determined that he was not going to see an opening soon at Princeton, which should make the Princeton fans happy as well.

Yes, I take it as meaning Mitch will be around for a while, maybe at least another year. But given the recent coach comings and goings such as at UNLV, one never knows.

Looking at Cornell's coaching history, as well as its reputation as being unwilling to spend large sums of money on the basketball program, it always seemed likely that the school would go for an assistant coach.
Looking at assistant coaches, especially those with Ivy League experience, Andy Noel made a very solid pick with Brian Earl. However, it is surprising that former Cornell (and present Penn) Assistant Nat Graham did not come away with the job. Graham has more experience with that school and in that region when it comes to dealing with the AD and recruiting. Also, for those thinking that Earl will depart if the Princeton job opens up, Graham would seem to be more likely to stay for a longer period of time.

I suspect that anybody who takes this job views it as a stepping stone, so I doubt any coach would stay all that long. It won't be very hard to improve the program significantly given the recent record. Once that's done, parlaying that into a better HC job or an assistant job at a high major program would be a logical next step.

The Cornell Daily Sun has a very good article on the recent hiring process.
While there may be some questions not asked of Noel and Earl, there is a lot of interesting information.

We're going to miss Earl on our end. Plus he may have the best hair of any Ivy coach.
