Wow. Well Cornell. You don't need to search too far for a new coach.

If the AD wanted his own guy, this was the only short window to do it... Because as many posters on this Board have pointed out, Dartmouth is on the rise. They will win 15+ next year with what they have coming back. (They'd have won 17+ with Mitola this year.) They would not have been able to make a change after next year.

This job is actually a good job now--thanks to Cormier. In two years, they will be contending. Of course they took a step back this year with the departure of Mitola, and the graduation of Maldunas, but before this year it was nothing but steady rise.

Tough business.

Igetz, I agree re: Cornell, but Cormier is like 63 or 64 and after all the heavy lifting he did at Dartmouth, it might be tough to sign on anywhere for another 5+ years.

Knowing Paul, and the way his teams got stronger as March approached, it is really too bad he wasn't around for a conference tourney.

LOLOLOL! There is not a snowball's chance Cormier is getting hired by Cornell... My guess is he is done coaching collegiately...

It should be noted that the language in the official press release is "will not return,", and the release in general is awfully long and laudatory for someone who got fired. Until we hear otherwise, I'm going to have to assume that he left voluntarily, for whatever reason.
Also, didn't know he was a pitcher in the minors.

The newspaper article in the Valley News made it clear this was purely Harry Sheehy's decision. Sheehy had a "gut feel" that this was the right move.

I'll be stunned if the successor is successful. Dartmouth is such a hard sell for basketball.

Wow. I thought Cormier deserved a medal for what he squeezed out of the job. I guess Hufnagel is available now.

This is analogous to a VP of marketing firing the ad agency because he wants to look as if he's taking meaningful action in the face of poor business results. Dartmouth's problem wasn't Cormier. It's systemic.

Sheehy is a basketball guy (coached many years at Williams) and I suspect he likes to put his own stamp on stuff. Cormier was not his hire and I'm not sure they were as thick as thieves. I think the program will be good the next 3-4 years or so. If they can recruit well as a result of the upcoming success they may be able to keep it going.

Could be, but then again, sometimes the more effusive the announcement, the less sincere it is.

He was fired - nothing more to read into this.
