This is an interesting article. I tried to review it from the perspective of how the rules might balance the needs of coaches versus the needs of student athletes. I found it ironic that the two new rules seem to be common sense that should have no adverse impact on team performance, yet the NCAA cannot get these type of rules passed. The new rules will give athletes a 10-hour window of no official athletic activity following their return from a road trip and will require a two-week recovery period with no allowable team athletic activities following the completion of a team’s season.
I had to chuckle reflecting on my friends who played for the legendary ASU Football Coach Frank Kush. They would be terrified after any game the team lost since Coach Kush would occasionally order the team bus driver to deliver his team directly to the practice field for a post-game punishment scrimmage after games he deemed his players did not play up to his standards.
