Good first half despite the refs. Walker has been on fire.

Great win for the Bison! Good all-around game, but the defense was especially impressive. Drexel can really shoot, but we held them in check. But what was the deal with all the bogus offensive fouls?

Walker = BINGO's. today. This was a nice win against a good shooting veteran team, with many questionable calls, hate to bitch about officials when we win. Nice crowd for our Women.

Ladies down 28-26 at half to Akron. Came back from down 8 to tie, only to have Zips retake the lead at the buzzer. Akron has a great and enthusiastic crowd on hand.

It is education day at Akron, were thousands of school children attend the game and also participate in various programs. Lehigh has a similar program, which normally draws three or four times more people than any man's home game on the regular schedule.

Women have outscored Akron 18 to 6 in the third quarter and 14 to 4 thus far in the fourth quarter. Have pulled out to a 19 point lead with a couple of minutes left.

Great win for the women. Held Akron to 19 pts in the 2nd half. Great balance on this team. DeBoer had an off day (0-7,0-3,5-6), but Swart more than made up for it (7-8, 1-1, 2-2). Slagus, Walker, and English all had solid games as well.

Another solid win today over Cleveland St. Slagus had a monster game, 17 pts, 14 reb, 3 ast, 2 stl, and 5 blks. DeBoer had 19 pts, Walker 15, and Swart 10. Kai English was sick and not at the game. McGurk sat out the 2nd half for some reason (may be sick as well). Gia Hayes really stepped up in their absence. Looking forward to seeing a lot more of her. If we can pick up another win on Tue vs. Manhattan will move to 8-3 heading into PL play.

Coach always seems to get so much more from his Freshmen women then the men do, is it coaching or need ? I know with the staff he has, the guy can coach. This is no way any being critical of men's staff, he has a much deeper veteran team. Klotz, Slagus, DeBoer, McGurk just to name a few, really added to their teams as freshmen/women. I am still waiting for Moore, Toomer and Robertson, just one to really change the complexion of this years team.

Toomer, especially, and Moore are playing meaningful minutes and beginning to contribute. May be more a function of the quality of recruits year by year. May be the women's recruit quality keeps getting better and better because of the successes of the past few years.

interesting question nitlion. a few thoughts and observations i'll throw into the discussion.
women's team has steadily been improving from a 5 win team when Roussell took over to a top 100, 20+ win team now, so there has been a steady uptick in talent along with opportunity and need for early contributions. in contrast, Davis came in and took over a team that not only was already winning consistently, but had a class (current juniors) along with last years seniors who had established themselves as team leaders and go to players who are likely to dominate playing time and stats over most newcomers. note they got yhis opportunity as frosh out of neccesity after a down year.
the transition from high school to college may be a bigger adjustment for the guys than the girls at this level (pure speculation on my part). it seems we have often seen frosh men take until after first semester or longer to emerge. e.g. Zach Thomas, who i think of now as a guy who had good success as a frosh didn't really get on the court until second semester. same for Sestina last year.
i am looking for a breakout game from Toomer sometime soon. in part, because i want to see it, but i also think our area of need to have this team compete for the PL championship is better production from our 2/3 guard spots and i see him as the most likely option to be able to produce consistently at this point. his shooting percentage has improved in recent games (except for free throws) and can create his own shot. think he needs to start to be a bit more aggressive looking for his offense going forward. i see some good things from both Moore and Robertson as well, but not anywhere near the same gap in the teams needs relative to what they bring at tjis point.

You also have to add in the developmental part as boys tend to gain more strength and mass during college over time and girls tend to be fully developed earlier. So biology places at least a small part in it.

Believe we will keep seeing an uptick in Bison women's sports, including basketball. While waiting for my daughter to fly into Dallas, had a nice conversation at baggage claim with several existing Bison from several women's sports. Spoke highly about the school, their coaching, and the ability to get high level jobs once their 4 years were completed. Their feedback from grads was that with some exceptions, average earnings for Bucknell grads on par with Ivy League and among highest in US.

HoleinOne, I don't know if this belongs on this thread or not, but payscale.com supports what you heard about earnings with Bucknell and Cornell tied for mid-career earnings at #33 in the country:

Slagus wins another player of the week award this week. In her last two games she's had 33 pts, 27 reb, 11 ast, 10 blk, 6 stl, 1 TO. Quite the stats!

Slagus and DeBoer dominate the PL stat categories:
Slagus: 5th in scoring, 1st in rebounding, 2nd in FG pct, 2nd in FT pct, and 3rd in blocks.
DeBoer: 4th in scoring, 6th in rebounding, 3rd in FG pct, 4th in FT pct.
DeBoer has switched roles this year, playing a lot at the three with the unexpected departure of Klotz. She seems to be getting more comfortable with that role, although she doesn't get as many opportunities in the paint.

Odd scheduling quirk has the women playing last-place Lafayette twice in the last three games of the regular season.
