If you want to recruit against non Ivy schools this is the type of program commitment you have to compete against:

An applicant who is swayed by a special jock dorm would very likely not be happy with an Ivy school and its priorities. Call me a snob.

The league as a whole has been successful in recruiting against non-Ivies. When it comes to kids for whom those types of facilities are built, Ivies would likely only get involved with the handful that aren't really swayed by such things.
That's why we've been doing so well recently with high-major kids with whom we get far down the path. There's a lot of selection happening prior to senior fall, where we get visits from kids who are explicitly not looking for an isolated "athlete" experience.

Even among the elite high major schools the Kansas facilities are in rare company with the likes of Kentucky. I posted it primarily for discussion, knowing fully that the types of kids that the Ivies can recruit are from a small pool and academics are equally important.
That said commitment to the program is important to players. The Ivies have been actively attending to things such as facilities. They have collectively shown a greater commitment to their basketball programs and the results are showing.
Winning and a path to play beyond college is also critical. Those kids who qualify or can be considered for Ivy schools already value education. The next consideration is probably fit with the coach, winning, and then a path to the pros.
As fans and outside observers I don't know if we fully appreciate what goes into making the D1 level. I suspect the vast majority of these players want to play professional, just like their counterparts at Duke and Kentucky (home to the one & done). Having access to anything that might help them achieve that basketball dream only helps in recruiting. $12M dollar dorms are just icing on a cake IMO.

Can we just promise not to banish the recruits to the Quad?

Harvard's pending updated facilities are looking pretty swanky from the mock-ups.

Haven't the original harvard plans been scaled back, with no new facility to be built now?

Yeah scaled back from the original plans, but still an investment in upgrading the facilities.
