In Boston for the Nets-Celtics game, Jeremy Lin announced a $1 million gift to support Harvard undergraduate financial aid and Lavietes Pavillion renovations. Also great to see JLin back in a starting role. Link

From the article:
The current renovation is expected to be completed in time for the 2017-18 basketball season.
Surprised no one has commented on this. Does this mean that the new arena is off, temporarily or otherwise?

Couldn't keep waiting for a project that may or may not happen...
I don't know what this does to the long-term plans, but clearly the continued push back of the project (with no guarantees) was frustrating...

No one willing to pony up? Resistance from the neighbors? Just not a priority?

It's part of the greater Allston expansion project that keeps getting delayed and re-prioritized.
The purpose was never specifically to build a new basketball arena, but rather to take the real estate where Lavietes currently stands and make it river-facing dorms, which would force Harvard to relocate the basketball arena. When Harvard wavered on its plans to execute the move, that left the new arena subject to those whims.
