This entire team has a chance to be very special. The quality and depth of returning talent is scary. And I don't see it falling off much even when Nana, Zach, and Stephen graduate.

agree that next years team has oportunity to be special. if everyone works hard and improves a bit, and a couple of the rising second years (stated that way to include Sestina) can take a big, Mackenzie like, step forward, it could be one of the truly great years.

have to say i think your statement about it not falling off much post Nana et. al. is a bit optimistic. i loke the younger talent and am optimistic about the recruits, but they all have much to prove before i can really beleve that. while no one is ever replaced precisely, hopefully you have players who step up and in aggregate replace what was lost and bring different elements to the team. however, Nana really changes the game and i don't see anyone in the pipeline yet who can replace what he brings.

I agree that every player and every team displays a unique character. But looking 2 seasons down the road at a potential starting line up of Newman, Moore, Toomer/Jones, McKenzie, Sotos with a strong bench behind them leaves me optimistic.

MSM has been decimated over the past month. At the end of the season, they figured to have their top 8 players returning for a team that won the NEC regular season and tournament. Instead three of their five starters, plus two benchwarmers, have announced they are transferring. In addition to Long, they have apparently lost freshman wing Miles Wilson, who was one of the NEC's top rookies and who averaged 14 ppg and 8 rpg in five postseason games. Wilson already has picked up a PSU offer. Also they lost 6-9 soph starter Mawdo Sallah, who already signed with CAA champs UNCW, who won 29 games this season.

For some perspective on the loss to MSM, the three starters who have left all quickly got offers from teams ranked among the 87 best in the nation (Pomeroy). Jamion Christian seems to have a good reputation; the Mount plays what seems to be a fun style; the team was successful; they had a very bright future; and they have a good fan base. I wonder what caused this deluge of transfers.

Mount St. Mary's recently announced their incoming freshman class. In response to all of the transfers, they have added six newcomers. Additionally, they return two redshirt freshmen who sat out last year. Thus they will roster eight scholarship freshmen next year - and only a total of three juniors/seniors. That will be some challenge for Jamion Christian. Will be interesting to see how they do, especially if they play the Bison again.

Updating their transfers:

- SG Charles Glover ended up at Longwood.
- PG Elijah Long signed with Texas.
- PF Mawdo Sallah signed with UNCW.
- Wing Miles Wilson has offers from Miami, VA Tech, NC State, PSU, Auburn, and Virginia. Hasn't committed yet.
- SG Randy Miller was a late addition to the transfer list. He hasn't committed yet, but did have offers from Delaware and Fairfield the first time around. May end up at a juco.

Here is an article from May 12th on the player movement issues at MSM and from smaller schools in general: The Price of Success for Mount Basketball. One interesting item: "In the NEC alone, five of the top seven scorers, including Long, will be playing for different schools next season." Bucknell, knock on wood, is one of the few schools that has avoided the transfer epidemic, which has even hit Lafayette, Lehigh, American, Loyola, Navy, and Holy Cross over the past couple of years.

As I understand it, the series is being discontinued. The head coaches are very tight friends and do not like playing against each other.

Yes, I've also heard the Mount St Mary's series has been nixed.

Bill Courtney has just been hired by Dave Leitao as DePaul's new Associate Head Coach. Courtney previously worked under Leitao at UVA a decade ago.

DePaul has gone 9-22 and 9-23 in Leitao's first two seasons. His contract runs through 2019-20, but he won't be there that long if they don't start showing major improvement. Leitao has his offcourt issues to deal with also. His son, a big-time Texas football recruit, was arrested on felony drug charges - possession near a school with intent to sell. He was allowed to plea bargain it down and of course Texas still took him since he is very good.

Jamion Christian just got a well-deserved contract extension.
