As an eternal Tiger optimist I am disappointed but hardly discouraged after two tough road games against very good teams. Mika and Kempton are two excellent big men, both much better than DNH and we couldn't stop him. Brase had trouble with those type players before he was hurt.I believe he will bet better going forward once he's comfortable on the floor. Haven't looked at the stats yet but I suspect we lost this one on poor shooting, particularly from beyond the arc. We get within one and had three empty possessions. Then, a Kempton three point play ended the game effectively. Lehigh played well and obviously was geared up for their home opener. I agree that a loss to Lafayette will suggest something seriously wrong, but won't happen.

Kempton is much better than I realized. Guess it helps to be coached as a kid by an NBA big man. Mika also excellent.

As much as I like a help defense, at some point you must concede the two points to a big man who has worked in deep, avoid the foul, keep tight to the perimeter shooters, and come back down the floor looking for a 3-pointer. The foul shot turns it into a three pointer, and lets the big man catch his breath. Keep him moving.

Well, I directed a few choice words at the screen in the dying minutes of the Lehigh game. But, I also did that at the end of the Harvard fballl game and eventually things worked out well. Besides, if the unlikely happens and the Bean Town Boys win the less-than-one-day Tournament after losing the 14 game League Championship, I would expect them, sportsmen that they are, to forgo the NCAA bid in favor of the rightful League Champion.

You mean as Joe Restic demanded in 1982? http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/eagles/ Joe-Fla...

Brendan Connolly ( or even Mack Darrow) would have been handy yesterday, but I thought Miller looked pretty good during his time on the court. MH likes to go small at times, especially when behind, but it only works if the offensive mismatch wins by more than the defensive mismatch loses. Draymond Green pulls that off a lot for Golden State, but Brase was not at all Green-like against the Mountain Hawks.

And if Mitch is worried, I'm worried:

Interesting. In the unlikely event that my chain of events plays out, I'll call on Joe Restic. But, I won't bet the ranch that anything will change this time either.

Was the 1-3-1 used at all? Anything to speed up the game would play to our advantage in depth.

They used it for one possession (maybe there was a second, I'm not sure). In general, I like this team more when it is in an aggressive defensive posture, given that they are giving up lots of penetration anyway. Make the opponent stop dribbling and start passing and then use your long arms and court sense to get in the passing lanes and collapse on the ball when it does go inside.

Have to give Henderson high marks for being candid : bad practices, , " not very pretty right now", and "I'm at a little bit of a loss ".

Same players, that look so much less effective than last year., running basically the same system. Seems explanation must be related to mental approach. I'm optimistic they'll get it together. But wonder if we are witnessing the effect of losing Brian Earl's influence.

Which brings up the addition of Kittles to the coaching staff. Is he the guy who will be working with the big men and responsible for preparing them for challenges like those in the first two games?

When I heard that Lehigh's PG Ross was not playing, I thought that Tigers caught a big break but his replacement, a freshman, shoots 7 out of 8 and 3 out of 4 3 pointers. Lehigh shooters made some really tough 3 point shots. The Basketball Gods are putting the Tigers through the ringer, deservedly so.

They are out of sync, especially offensively, and I believe that Brase playing down low is a factor. Weisz and Bell have been brutal shooting and yet they were down 1 pt with less than 3 minutes to go. The loss of Earl may also be a factor.

All I can say is that Lafayette will be facing a hornet's nest. If it is a tight game, very unlikely, the Tigers are more troubled than I believe.

Were you really thinking that the Ivies would get 2 spots this year? Until the day it happens, I think the thought is pretty much a fantasy.

No, I have always thought this is, as you say, fantasy until proven otherwise.
