According to Rothstein... Harvard was in it to the end, but ultimately couldn't overcome Duke + the Trent Jr. package.
On to the next one...

I really don't think Harvard was ever "in it."

Wendell Carter to Duke 01-26-17 09:20 PM - Post#219588
In response to final479
Hmmm ... will he reconsider given the current turmoil at Duke?
"Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski is still making his presence felt while being away from the team during his recovery from back surgery.
According to an ESPN report, Blue Devils players have been banned from the team's locker room and are not allowed to wear school apparel. The decision handed down by Krzyzewski came during a team meeting at his home this week."
"During his recruitment, Carter was likely most notable for having the Harvard Crimson as one of the finalists to land his services."
But, alas, I doubt he ever had a sincere interest in Harvard!
NOTE: "2017 SIGNEE WENDELL CARTER SPORTING DUKE BLUE HAIR ...
The highest-rated member of Duke's 2017 recruiting class, #4 overall player Wendell Carter, has been sporting locks in the color of his future team of late. (Jan 20, 2017)"

Over at The Undefeated, there is an article on Carter's recruiting with a bit of focus on his mother's desire for him to have chosen Harvard.

C'mon, Hahvaad. Accept his Mom. She appears to be the most motivated in the family. Wendell will need someone to manage his sudden wealth.

Wendell Carter's parents were interviewed recently and felt that the Duke leadership were not completely honest with them and their son about his role, especially once Bagley reclassified to the fall of 2017.
While Mrs. Carter probably still wishes her son went to Harvard last fall, maybe her husband and son now have similar thoughts. It will be interesting if this is something that influences the next 5-star who considers going to an Ivy power.

Silliness on their part. His bizarre sour grapes won't have one bit of impact on Ivy recruiting. Players go to Duke to play with other great players for a year. He went 7th in the draft - it worked out fine. It's all on him now to have a successful NBA career.
