Very gritty win where we didn't play our best but won the last 5 minutes of a tie game. Overcame 19 turnovers. Many of them unforced. Speith was huge with 15-9-8. He controlled the ball at the foul line a lot in first half and fed Josh Howard nice passes inside. Howard had effective moves inside and had 14 points in first half. He is very under control with great head fakes and uses the rim to ward off defenders. He may have an impact FR year as Alaii N did. He plays like a veteran. Blackmon played 38 minutes and had 20 pts. & 6 assists. He hit three 3's and dove to the basket with more aggressiveness. Daugherty provided some defensive spark, especially in second half. Also hit a big 3 late in second half. Okolie never got in flow and was defended well when he tried to drive. Morgan State was 6-10, 6-8, & 6-7 up front. They played a lot of zone which Hobbie liked as he hit three 3's. One big one late in game. Bears played flat at times in front of a sedate group of about 500 fans which included former AD Dave Roach. But they dug down when it counted and won a very important game. Sarting the season at 1-5 and heading into the always tough battle with Bryant on Monday would not have bode well. We'll take it and look for more steady improvement.

Well states JB. Fuller was helpful off the bench, and it was nice to see Dougherty contribute. My game ball goes to Mike Martin. Refs were bad at both ends.

Agree with JB and OB re who played well, the refs, etc. Where was the 1-3-1 today? Brown really had to have this one against this team at home and after being down 12 midway through the 2nd half it really was a nice comeback. Gritty and they got it done. Give Howard 2 more inches and he can play anywhere. A natural and I still can't believe he's starting at the 5. Glad to see Erebor get minutes. Should have been easier tonight but I liked the comeback.
LET'S go BRU-no (duh. nuh. nuh-nuh-nuh)

Great analysis by JBears.

Hate to say that the 6th game of the year (non conference at that) was a must win- but it was pretty close. With the exception of Providence (although Martin always gives Cooley fits) every game is winnable the rest of the NC schedule.

I find it interesting the last three games our guys fall asleep on defense for long stretches when we switch sides of the floor -after the half - meaning Martin isn't right there on top of his guys (practically in a defensive stance himself). Blackmon needs to make sure everyone is locked in on that side of the floor. But it was nice to see Blackmon finally realize tonight the season has started,

It was nice to see Corey come in, provide enthusiasm in the 2nd half, and contribute. Howard has been terrific - Alai N is a great comparison. If he is 70% of the player Alai was he'll have a great career.

Is Haber hurt?
