In terms of the President's Cup, it must hurt Navy and Army that their football teams do not compete in the PL.

fall lead over Navy is 12.25 points this year vs. 5.50 last year, so definitely a good start.

Also a much bigger lead over Boston U.

The good news is that the Bison now have a 7.75 point lead. The bad news is that Navy outscored Bucknell by 10.5 points last spring, so a few teams need to do better this spring. Or hope a couple Navy teams do worse.
The Bison don't figure to do any better than last year in men's lax, as they are struggling while Navy is a contender. Women's lax was surprisingly good last year. Will be tough to do better this year. T&F is likely to go about the same as last year for both the Bison and Navy. The women will likely win it again, but that just keeps BU even. In baseball, Navy looks like the favorite - but they won both the regular season and the tournament last year, so they can't gain any points compared to 2016. The Bison look like they have a chance to improve on last year's 4th place finish and thus pick up a little bit. In softball, BU has a legitimate chance to improve on last year's 4th place finish, and could challenge for 1st.
So it is possible the Bison could increase the lead by a couple more points in the above sports. That would leave it up to golf, tennis, and rowing to determine the Cup winner. Navy will do better in tennis, both men's and women's - but possibly by no more than last year. Golf is close, and BU might have a shot in rowing, which Navy won last year. Looks like it will be a close race.

Patriot League Presidents' Cup: 2016-17 04-29-17 08:39 PM - Post#228988

As spring sport wind down things are not looking good for the Bison.
MLAX finished tied for 7th and missed the playoffs. Luckily Navy lost in the QF to Holy Cross, so doesn't gain a huge advantage. WLAX finished 6th and plays #3 Lehigh (who just beat us 12-4) in the QF. Navy is #2 seed and likely to face Loyola in the championship game.
Baseball clinched a playoff spot today with a clutch win at 1st place Navy. Tomorrow's games will determine whether they are the #3 or #4 seed in the tournament. Softball is struggling badly. After a 21-5 start, they have lost 12 of 14 including 8 straight PL games. They needed 2 wins vs. HC this weekend to clinch a playoff spot and lost both games today by 1 run. They are now tied with HC for the last playoff spot with another game tomorrow. Bison finish the season with a series vs. 2nd place Boston while HC plays perennial doormat Lafayette. Quite likely we will miss the playoffs for the first time in many years.
W golf finished 5th one spot behind Navy in the PL championship. Men are solidly in 3rd after 2 rounds. Navy is tied for 5th, one shot out of 4th. Have to hope they drop to 6th.
M tennis made the semis of the tournament. Navy lost in the final to Army. W tennis tournament is in progress. Bucknell lost to Navy in the QF. Navy plays Boston in the SF
Track & Field championship is next weekend at Lehigh.
Women's rowing wraps things up the following Friday May 12.

I have an outsider's general question about baseball: Why do they play so many games?
Specifically, I was surprised to see that Bucknell would be playing two days of double-headers at Navy. One double-header seems like plenty, especially considering the general desire to minimize time away from campus.

I can't give an exact answer as to the rationale, but the format for many years has been to play doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday. One reason is that playing four games over a weekend reduces the chance of a team dominating the league by merely having two or three dominant pitchers. Fwiw, baseball has less time away from the classroom than does basketball since they don't have any weekday overnight trips during the week.

Brief update on spring sports:
Baseball - seeded 4th in the tournament and plays #1 Navy in the semis.
Softball - lost their last 3 games to finish 5th. 7 of their 11 losses in this streak were by 1 run. Navy does not have a team.
Wlax - Navy upset Loyola in the championship. Until now, Loyola had not lost a single PL GAME since joining the league. Bucknell was 6th and lost in the QF.
WT&F - Won the PL championship. Navy finished 5th.
MT&F - Navy won and Bison finished 4th.
W Tennis - Navy lost in SF. Bucknell lost in QF.
M Golf - Bucknell finished 3rd, Navy 4th.
I have no idea what all this means in the overall cup standings. But barring a major upset in baseball or rowing, it looks like Navy will repeat as champions.

I think that's correct. For the Bison to have any chance, I think they would need to upset Navy in baseball, which is a long shot, and then probably win the league.

Bison pulled off the upset over Navy. Play at HC for the championship.

Unfortunately the rowers did not do well, and Navy finished 1st - which I believe ended any chance of a Presidents' Cup.

That was my sense but wasn't sure if potentially winning the baseball championship would give us a shot.
How do they handle affiliate members is the President's Cup scoring? Does rowing get credit for 3rd with Georgetown being one of the teams ahead of them?

Bison finish 2nd as expected. Only 3 pts ahead of Boston for 3rd. Spring was not kind.
