Rankings Schmankings. Dartmouth wins are all that matters.
Dartmouth Basketball
Predictions Update
Dec 19, 2016
• After beating LIU-Brooklyn 82-68 yesterday, Dartmouth is now projected to finish the regular season 6-21 (4-10 Ivy).
• We currently rank Dartmouth as the #298 team in the country, and the #8 team in the Ivy.
• Next game: Thu, Dec 22 at #284 Bryant. Our power ratings give the Big Green a 32% chance to win.
One win makes a huge impact! Winning matters and who you beat matters more! One resounding win at LIU-Brooklyn boosts the Big Green out of the abyss and now has us ahead of:
#347 Longwood, #324 Harford, #319 Maine, and #299 Marist
The LIU-Brooklyn win proved what many of us on here thought and that was that this team is better than their record showed. Coach McLaughlin finally found a mix that worked even when Boudreaux couldn't do Boudreaux things. If these guys can put it all together again versus Bryant and have Boudreaux back at peak it will be a heck of a way to go into the holiday weekend.

Good start for Dartmouth -- Up 38-29 at the half.
Guilien Smith is on fire!
At halftime, he already has matched his career high with 21 points. He is 7-9 overall and 4-4 from three.
Boudreaux only has 4 points, but he grabbed 6 rebounds.
Bryant likes to play up-tempo and today is no exception. Dartmouth only had 3 turnovers, compared to Bryant's 11.

The light at the end of the tunnel may not be a train. The Big Green just played another very solid game at Bryant, a team which dealt Yale one of its 4 losses. you can't to read too much into that, but what you can infer is that Dartmouth isn't as bad as the record shows. Coaching and Players are finding their way. On any given day anything can happen. And that, Ivy play will be more up in the air than preseason rankings suggested.
When Dartmouth values the ball they can be in the game. Dartmouth doesn't have a total PG solution but the coach has found the combo of guys who "play within themselves" and can keep turnovers down.
The offense was less hesitant and guys looked like they were more willing to make a play that didn't rely on Boudreaux. The shooting can be streaky, but the team showed a willingness to get the ball to the guy with the hot hand and not force to many shots.
There was a clear mix of man and zone which is called for given the team's mixed results with man-to-man only.
In this game Boudreaux missed a fair amount of shots around the rim that he usually makes. When things revert to the norm for Boudreaux, Dartmouth be a definite threat of being that team that no one wants to play.

Bryant is 4-9 for the year with a win vs Yale. The defense wasn't good in this game but the game changed when Dartmouth went to the 2-3 zone mid way through the second half in a tie game. That led to a bunch of jump shot misses and easy buckets for Dartmouth.

The zone was a change I thought we should have seen sooner. Our ability to play man defense has gotten better but zone is better suited for our backcourt players.
