Hard to find any reference in Chet "The Jet's" biography to the Eastern League, a minor league pro circuit centered in PA cities like Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton and Easton. I remember seeing him play in Scranton against the Miners in the late '50's.

Larranaga is an excellent coach and the Canes are a talented team. I'm looking forward to the game Wednesday night.

Offense picked up but not defense. We are allowing too many wide open threes. We have been in a zone for the entire first half, but we have to contest the three ball.

Down by only ten at halftime, but it is really perplexing that two of our three best players, Hickman and Smith, sat out most of the first half and and another good player, Meisner, has not been on the court, so I presume he's injured. I just don't get it. It seems obvious that the Lions should be starting Petrasek, Tape, Hunter, Hickman and Smith with Adlesh, Coby and a few others coming off the bench first. Why is Killingsworth in the starting line-up?

Good game by Smith and Petrasek. Hickman had his worst game of the year. It was a winnable game but rust and off games by too many guys sealed it. Tape again showed his potential. Hunter has to learn how to shoot, including free throws, if he is to contribute. Coby was so-so. Eleven point loss but if Hickman hit his average we would have won.

Watched the game on ESPN 3 and looking at the box score, takeaways:
1) we click much better with smith on the floor, he is aggressive and shows leadership despite being a freshman
2) tape needs more playing time, he needs to learn how to defend without fouling, they'll go hand in hand
3) not sure why Hickman didn't play more, maybe he was under the weather?
4) Hunter has great dribbling, passing and attacking talent but simply cannot shoot. This is a serious handicap come ivy season when he'll be properly scouted, so his days (minutes) are numbered unless he locks himself in the gym and shoots until his hands fall off.
5) CJ was lost at times today, hope he shakes off the rust
6) Voss was worse and his lack of court sense, makes him a waste of minutes on the floor
7) Adlesh looked good in spurts and he should probably start over killingsworth
8) I would give voss+McCombers minutes to Coby and tape, they definitely performed at a higher level today, and tape might have a high ceiling.
9) we hung in there all game which is encouraging, but Miami played a sub-par game for their standards, too many turnovers, too many mental errors and long range jumpers instead of attacking the basket, which would have hurt us more.
We have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks, months and over the summer if we want to properly contend for an ncaa spot. At the end of last season I pegged our odds of making the ivy tourney at 33% I would say we are still there or below. Penn and Harvard are playing at a significantly higher level and brown and Cornell are matching us right now.

My attempts to watch on ESPN3 were met with a message about not getting access to some service. If you'll indulge my ignorance, how could I have gone through that barrier?
I used both a laptop and Amazon Stick.

I was at the game.
Hickman and Smith were both in foul trouble. They each picked up 2 fouls within the first 5 minutes of the game.
Some of the calls were questionable at best. There was a little homecooking.
On Hunter your offbase a bit. Shooting isn't the problem. He is a scorer and he can definitely shoot. He scored over 2200 points in high school against good competition. In fact he played against Anthony Lawrence in hs, who was on the court tonight for Miami. He also played against Huell, who also plays for Miami. He also played on the Eybl circuit with Nike Yeam Florida.
Go back check out the City of Palms tournament game in which he played against the #1 yeam in 5a in Florida. The pg goes to Princeton and the sg who was checking him is starting at NC State. He scored 32......he scored from all 3 levels.
The problem is he is hesitant for some reason. I think he's still trying to figure things out.

Hi Internetter - to use WatchESPN app or ESPN3.com you actually still need to be an ESPN subscriber and also getting your cable/satellite service from a company that has a deal for this service with ESPN. So when you go to watch you will need to login to your account first.

Right, but whatever his history, we have a shooting problem now which needs to be addressed, or he'll be easy to defend come Ivy time when properly scouted.
I think if Hunters FT %s and long range game picks up, he'll rise to an automatic starter and easily to 30-35+ mins a game.

I think Hunter has a lot of potential, but offensively he does appear to have some issues right now. He was 1 for 4 from the free throw line, which should be correctable. As far as his shooting in general. I just think he needs work at this point. Obviously the coaches think he has a significant upside, or else he would not be part of the rotation. He just needs to finish. As far as other observations, I was surprised that Luke only took 10 shots. Once he missed a few threes he seemed hesitant to shoot. Tape looks like he can be a do,infant inside player if he can avoid fouls. Hickman just did not have a good game and seemed to be handcuffed by whoever was defending him. I understand that he got a few quick fouls but he was still largely ineffective in the second half. Coby, despite his 13 points, missed some easy shots at a critical time. As far as Smith, he is starting to make this his team: I think he didn't turn over the ball once. And finally, we could have folded against a more athletic team who we were facing after a very long layoff but played tough and have the makings of a pretty good group. We saw a lot of guys get on the court for us. PS, where is Meisner?

Pardon the spell check typos on Tape-- meant to say he can be a dominant inside player.

IMO, the offense of most Ivy League teams revolves around 3 point shooting. This is especially true of Columbia. A typical Columbia starting lineup will feature three 3 point shooting guards, a stretch 4 and a center. (Isaac Cohen was the one notable exception to this rule, and he received a lot of flack for his inability to shoot the 3 ball.)
OTOH, Hunter has attempted zero 3 point shots all season. I like everything about Hunter's game...his hustle, defense, rebounding, ball handling, quickness, athleticism, IQ, etc. But unless Rodney starts taking and hitting 3s at a consistent rate, he apparently is not going to be rewarded with a lot of playing time.
Please note: This is not my view of how Columbia's offense should be designed. I would have preferred that Hunter start at the 3 spot from day one, replacing Cohen.
Next season, I'm hoping Castlin replaces Killingsworth in the starting line-up.
