I think tonight may be one of the lower attendances we've seen at Sojka - end of a holiday weekend and going head-to-head against Penn State's Rose Bowl game.

Yes, I am bummed to miss the Rose Bowl. We're going to eat at Towne Tavern while watching the game until 6:45 and then head to Sojka. Hopefully there are at least 1000 people in attendance.

The Bison are very close to having four players average double figures. With decent games by Brown and Mackenzie, they will. Guess it doesn't mean much, but looks good.

Towne Tavern is not overly busy...I imagine that is foretelling a small crowd at Soja. But we have a TV right at our table to watch the Rose Bowl!

Our favorite pregame spot! I'm gonna have to take one for the team and have an extra beer. Too early to head to the game, especially with Rose Bowl on.

Mackenzie tweaked something in warmups and limped into the locker room

Not sure why Stephen Brown is thought to be a great finisher...to me he is better on uncontested shots. For me, he too often forces shots against taller guys or one-on-three. He is athletic but I guess I'd rather see him take more open shots. But at he same time, I like he forces the action at times.

Toomer really had a good game. Very impressed with his athletic ability and defense. Had a couple of amazing rebounds. Good to put this one away.

On a side note, got admonished by the guy sitting in front of me for making too much noise. What does that say about Bison "fans?"

That's not a bad thing. Play the best players and let them all play hungry for minutes to help the team.

I wondered if he thought it was a golf tournament - but he didn't even clap politely after a good shot.

I usually don't have anyone in front of me. But over the many many years of attending a few have made comments. I simply tell them I pay for my ticket just like you and I reserve the right to be a fan! We have had people move at halftime as well.

Given his size, athleticism and all-state accolades, how did we sign Avi Toomer again?

Not sure of the specifics, but he apparently wanted academics and also seemed to like Bucknell a lot. The Bison showed interest in him, but did not offer a scholarship until fairly late - after losing out on a really good prospect who opted for Creighton. His other options were Furman, Wofford, UNH, Kennesaw, Navy, Jacksonville, Tennessee Tech, and possibly UAB (had an early offer from them but it may have been pulled). A number of other programs were starting to look closely at him, including Louisiana Tech, Murray State, and ODU, all of whom had visited him at his HS in the week before he committed to the Bison. An article on his signing also said he had an offer from GMU before Hewitt was fired.

I think Toomer's stock rose significantly during his senior year - after he had signed with Bucknell. His stats were all up significantly from his junior year and his team was very successful.

The Bison had offers out to two SG's, Toomer and Ray Jerome, for the final scholarship. Jerome opted for Penn shortly after Toomer committed to the Bison. Jerome is not playing much for Penn, although they have a huge roster (at least 18). Unlike Toomer, Jerome's stock fell during his senior year, dropping a lot in the NERR rankings and not starting for his Cheshire Academy team. Am very happy BU ended up with Toomer, not Jerome.

Here's one article on his commitment and one scouting report from his junior year:

Thanks for the explanation. If this trend continues, Nate Jones will be a backup.

I think the team played with more fire and purpose this game. Still have some things to clean up defensively. Army beat us down the court several times as well. And we have a habit of making some careless passes. But overall, I'd say things are positive. Avi played a very good game offensively and defensively. He made an outstanding hustling steal in the latter portion of the game as well.

If it's the same one I'm thinking of, that was an amazing steal. Army had gotten a steal and through a long lead pass. BUt Avi raced to get there first and stole it back. One of the few plays that got a reaction from the "crowd."

Agree that this was the best game we have played in quite some time. While the crowd was really small, I actually heard some noise at times (and at the right times) on the PLN.
