As of this point I think we can say that he is the real deal, a legitimate big time point guard. His poise, for a first year, is remarkable. He has a complete game and no apparent weaknesses (ok, it would be nice if he were a little taller). With all of the buzz about the first years at Penn, Yale and Harvard, I don't think that Smith is getting the credit he deserves. PS, ever notice that in team pictures he is the only guy who never smiles?

The buzz about the Harvard, Penn and Yale kids is completely deserved. But anyone not speaking about Mike Smith in a similar vein is missing out. In a normal year, he'd be an Ivy POY frontrunner - sadly, this isn't a normal year. There are probably 10 guys across the league that could get hot in Ivy play and take the award and actually deserve it.

"At this point"??? I have been saying it since he committed. Kid is the real deal. You don't come within a windy city vote of being Mr Basketball in Illinois (after Jabari Parker and Jahlil Okafor) if you don't have the chops.

Yeah PF10 was way out in front on Smith I have to say. I've seen a few of your games and he really looks fantastic. It's left me wondering why Penn didn't recruit him and frankly would love to have him as a Penn fan.

You're absolutely right, PF10. But even with the second place Mr. IL Basketball vote, it was difficult to see if Smith could/would make it at the D1 level. He is not tall, he shoots his jumper off of a low release point, he is not ultra quick, yet he makes plays, shoots a high percentage and is very efficient. He is very smart on the court and unpredictable with his moves and his drives to the bucket. He is also extremely opportunistic. In addition to my being pleased that he plays for CU, he is simply a very interesting player to watch from a BB junkie's perspective.

Tyler Ulis finished 4th in Mr IL BB and then started at Kentucky for 2 years and now plays for the Phoenix Suns. Mike Smith is at least 3 inches taller than Ulis.
If you finish 2nd in Il for Mr BB, you are a D1 player.

Very impressed with Mike in my first prolonged look at him. If Columbia forces their way in to the Ivy Tourney, he will be a favorite for ROY. (And he might be anyway.)
