That should make next year quite intriguing.

Yes!

Just saw this as well. If you have followed his twitter feed while his recruiting has been going on, you will see that he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and a good heart. Those are the kinds of people that I want at my alma mater, so I am very glad he will be attending Penn. All the better that he is a promising basketball player, even better that he has the makings of a good person.

Congratulations and welcome aboard.

Now let's wait and hear from the Princeton folks that they really didn't want him after all.

Mike White
Among other reasons, Jarrod Simmons said he chose Penn because "It's a program where I thought I could maybe play right away."

Mike James - really bringing a pick me up to the Penn board a day after disaster. Well done sir!

Yesterday was so disappointing that I think a bunch of people couldn't bring themselves to the board today to see it. Hell, we've had more than 7 posts on a day discussing Twitter conversations for Simmons... and that's all we've mustered so far. If this happened last week there would be 30 posts by now.

Obviously awesome news and a real talent boost that is sorely needed! If very much like to see us play with two bigs on the floor next year as default.

nychoops if you're out there reading, can you share what recent offers came in to Simmons from power 5 schools?

I wasn't sure after last night but now I guess I'll just have to come back for (my) season # 51 next year.

Add Simmons and Woods (even without Howard) to this group and you have something worth buying tickets to see.

Well, we could still use a consistent shooter or two. Or three.

Scott and hopefully Williams. Simmons is an outstanding get for the program.

I needed this news...badly. Good stuff. Congrats to all involved in helping to make it happen, especially to Jarrod. You don't always see kids go the extra mile to get a test score so he is to be commended. It shows his commitment and is really exciting.

Now the question is who my son will pretend to be next year when we play basketball. Going to be tough to beat AJ at this point but I get a feeling Jarrod has a shot.

PS It would be nice to see him announce it himself.

What's great about this is a rotation of Brodeur, Rothschild and Simmons has the potential to be fantastic. Simmons has perimeter skills (sounds like he has range out to 3 point line) which is a perfect fit for this offense.

Adding Scott (very athletic) and hopefully a healthy Williams (he looked really, really good before injury) adds a lot of size and athleticisim on the wing. Throw in Woods for two years and that sounds intriguing.

2017 class is now very good. Wonder if there is anyone else still on the board for us.

Don't forget the 7-3 wildcard Mark Jackson. I wonder how much he plays on his mission.

So as to not hijack an awesomely important thread, I wonder if Andy Toole did any recruiting for us when it became apparent he had no chance at getting him. He does work with Jarrod's dad, associate AD at RMU.

Hope he comes in and becomes the next Jeff Foote, but honestly I don't believe in 7' Ivy Leaguers succeeding until I see it. Interestingly I think 2 years off after high school could actually be very positive. Hopefully he's added some weight. ;-)

From a site with the rules for the mission:

Do not play full court basketball.

Do not play basketball in leagues.

Do not play basketball in tournaments.

You may play half-court basketball.

The Simmons news was nice to wake up to. Didn't watch either game this weekend but I'm off today and will try to watch the Brown game. Obviously something isn't working. This team is once again a poor shooting team. i don't get it. We recruit shooters and they can't put the ball in the basket once they put on the Penn uniform.
