Penn's Alek Torgersen is on the East Roster for the East West Shrine game Sat at 3 EST. As expected given his size, accuracy and arm strength; it is being reported that he is getting some serious NFL interest, including the Giants and Eagles.

Jets will probably draft him in the first round.

The success of Wentz has created more awareness of FCS talent in general and QBs in particular. A couple of years of watching Torgersen convinced me he had NFL potential. Nice to see the pros seem to agree. I doubt he goes before day 3 of the draft but I bet he makes an NFL roster this fall given the thin talent pool at the position right now.

Torgersen's line from the game was not particularly impressive, 4-7 for 44 yards in 4 series, but there was a 20 sack on a fumbled snap that killed a drive in there. I went back and looked at the video. He looked a lot better there. His first was a nice deep back shoulder throw that the receiver made a fine catch on but forgot they were playing pro rules and only kept one foot in. The next was a drop by the same guy on a perfectly thrown slant that would have gone a long way if he had caught it which killed that drive. There was one bad ball where both he and his receiver misread the defense, but that was followed in the 2nd half by a couple of nice completions including one on the run under pressure into a tight window. Not a bad show for the scouts who comprised the majority of the really small attendance there.

I have to think and hope they saw what they wanted to see. It was nice to see him as THE chatter of the qb class at the game and if only that kid had caught that ball over the middle, the line would look much better and more importantly, he would have received more attempts. They started by giving each qb 2 series' and he wasn't able to get many attempts on those first two. That first ball though...that was a pro throw and had to impress.

That throw was good, but his fumbled snap was truly awful. Especially for a QB that lived in the shotgun.
