I stopped up to Rhode Island College this afternoon to see Mt. Herman play St. Andrews in a Prep School tourney. Two Brown recruits tipped off the game with Matt DeWolf for MH and Paul Newman for SA. MH seemed poised to blow SA out of the gym early. But SA hung tough all game, got within 4 a few times in second half and lost by around 8. Coach Martin was in attendance to get a preview of two big men who will be banging in practice next season. It seems that Newman is actually 6-9, per his introduction,as well as his looking eye-to-eye with De Wolf. He showed the ability to take the ball strong to his left and score inside. He was a bit out of control at times, as he is a work in progress. He had a strong second half and played well, which aided in SA keeping the game close. He hurt his shooting had making a nice block late in the first half. But he showed some toughness by playing through it as SA only had 9 players dressed against one of the countries' best prep teams who dress 17. And he showed again that he has a nice touch from the line.

DeWolf is a legitimate 6-9 240 and runs the court well. He's more agile and fluid than Newman at this point. Unfortunately for him, the MH offense does't feed the post often, so his opportunities were limited. However, I did noticed on their web site he had some big scoring games earlier in the season. He also he sat for stretches as MH sports a large front court and all 17 players saw action. Both players will add needed size and strength to the program. I think DeWolf has a better shot to see playing time and have an impact on the rotation next year.

The MH kid going to Princeton next year is a tough kid and a team leader. Good penetrator and plays strong. The also have a kid going to UNC. It's really quite a group, which is great daily competition for DeWolf.

Half right, evidently. Good luck to Paul in Bisonville.
