Big game tonight, looking at past statistics, Yale and Columbia are very similar, however, yale has had significantly stiffer competition, so is likely a better squad than us in almost all areas.
We have more variance in our height, with Voss and Petrasek being particularly long and Smith being particularly short. Yale is more even across the board, so they will present height problems for our guards at at least one position.
This will be a really tough game for us, but we can win in a similar way we beat Harvard- through ball pressure and turnover margin. TOs seem to be their Achilles Heel. So aggression on defense is probably the #1 factor tonight. Yale is a good FT team this year, so hacking and sending them to the line is not a solution, as it could be for some of H's players.

It would be great to win tonight--after Harvard, another victory against Yale would really put us on the map. But it is, frankly, unlikely, and actually more important to win tomorrow in order to create some distance between us and bottom 4.

We're up 38-40 at the half. So far we are losing the turnover margin, missing FTs (meisner) but owning Yale on the boards, surprising game. We need to keep up the rebounding effort, good job so far!

We lose 87-78. Petrasek had 24, Smith 15, but we can't stop them in last 8 minutes, and they pull away. Brown beats Cornell, so now we really have to win tomorrow night.

Yes, disappointing to let the game slip away at the end, but can't look back, brown is much more important, and as they showed today, is better than their record or ken Pom

We could have use Jaron Faulds tonight. Luke Petrasek was outstanding, but no one else contributed up front. Wonder why Patrick Tape didn't play?

We were also playing 5 versus 8. Jones was working he refs all night. We lost this game on the free throw line and with the technicals. Luke was great. Nate was awful. Smith and Davis were good. Boss cannot make routine bunnies. Where was Tape? And Coby had a ton of turnovers. Yale is beatable.

With hindsight, this was a winnable game, as we were competitive deep into the second half with only one starter playing. However, none of our multiple bench "combinations" played well enough last night to overcome Yale's final push. Last night, Columbia clearly needed to have their three best players --Petrasek, Hickman and Smith-- on the floor for more playing time, along with their best defenders/rebounders --Meisner and Hunter.

Agreed. But the foul shooting and the crummy officiating killed us in the end. Luke was the best player on the floor.
