Don't forget - the women's game is at 5:30. Let's root those Quakers on to maintaining their undefeated Ivy season. I plan to be there for both games.

Season on the line tonight. This is a game Penn, because of its prior loss to Brown, must win to have a shot. The difference is that we are playing with a very different team than a month ago. In that game, Betley did not play, Goodman played 4 minutes and Rothschild 9 minutes. Betley and Goodman, in particular, have given this team a completely different look and have improved the quickness, shooting and, together with Rothschild, the rebounding. So Let's Go Quakers!

Definitely a different look. Would be great if Jackson Donahue could finally find his shot. He's taken the most 3's on the team and is hitting just .276 of them. The kid can shoot. I don't know what the issue is. Sophomore slump? Trying too hard? Just relax and put the ball in the basket a few times
If we get a little more from Donahue and Dev Goodman avoids the unnecessary offensive fouls, this team should perform better than the team that Brown whipped a few weeks ago.

Another change-- Sam Jones is now officially a part of the rotation, and seems to be playing solid ball.
Regarding Donahue, the other Donahue seems to have decided that the only way to help Jackson work out his shooting woes is to put him in and leave him in. My guess is that Jackson is working his butt off and shooting the lights out in practice, thus earning this opportunity. Eventually, if the shooting % doesn't improve, the coach's patience is probably going to wear out, but it looks like he's giving the kid every chance to earn a spot in the rotation.

Spoiler Alert: Penn wins tonight by 6. Caleb Wood actual sees some time on the floor and plays well.

I would be surprised to see Caleb Wood get substantial time tonight, even were there to be a garbage time.

The thing about Jackson's missing is that almost every single shot is WIDE OPEN. You can't move the ball that well and have it result in success only 27% of the time. You just can't. If he gets his shooting form back it changes the entire season, but I'm not overly optimistic.

Sam Jones. Killer three point shot. He actually looked like he was having fun on court against Princeton.
But, can he play defense?

Just relaying to everyone what was told to me last night by Chuck Daly. Penn will enjoy a comfortable lead throughout (if there is such a thing as a comfortable lead for this team), and my guess is SD is trying to keep some fresh(er) legs for Sunday.

If we see Wood and MacDonald at all, I expect it will be on Sunday. If JD misses open 3's (and FTs for that matter), Jones needs to get his minutes. We can use Betley and Hamilton to compensate defensively if Spieth starts going off. They killed us shooting over the 1-3-1 last time. They certainly will try that again so we need to mix up the defenses. A stable rotation likely helps witrh that. They will double AJ relentlessly forcing others to step up. Another double-double from Howard is a big part of the recipe for success. Martin knows this and I'll be looking hard at how they defend him and try to keep him off the boards.

I have only watched a few games this season, but in the ones I saw I was surprised that Donahue had a Steph Curry type of shot selection. He seemed to have the green light to jack a shot off the dribble from 24 feet if his defender was giving him a few inches. I was wondering why, as I didn't think he is a good enough shooter for that. I prefer Donahue as a shooter off of a set play. Jones has earned the right. Donahue, not so much.

He has usually had open looks when he chucks his best bricks. The proof is in the pudding and also his foul shots. He is, simply, not a polished shooter!
