Perhaps the IL tournament is here to stay, but can its proponents at least acknowledge that getting a second bid is not a valid reason for it?

I don't recall anyone favoring the Tourney, including the coaches and ADs, arguing that a second bid was a reason for it.

Wait until the power conferences start paying "stipends." Then the world will really tilt.

It's been mentioned frequently, just do a search for "second bid."

Obviously no shot (less than 5%) this year. But in future
years, when this first years class becomes sophomores and juniors and we get a new wave of recruits, I can easily see two top 50 ivy teams and the tourney making it more likely for a two bid. The future looks bright, ask Mr James.

I think for an Ivy team to get an at large bid it would have to be ranked in the top 25, thus giving the seeding committee no choice. And even that wouldn't be a guarantee.

Then, how is it justified?

Whether it is possible for Harvard so soon will remain to be seen, but I suspect after its heavily freshman-driven performance this year, the Crimson will get (deserved or not) preseason hype as a team to watch that could snag an at-large.
I believe that we'll see a team that is projected in the field regardless of whether it wins the Ivy Tourney by 2020. 2015-2017 recruiting classes have been unlike anything this league has seen in the AI era. Makes it useless to comp to previous Ivy eras. We are on pace to finish with the most productive (by win shares) freshman and frosh + soph class as far back as I have win shares. Assuming they don't all transfer out or get injured, we're looking at two incredible seasons and possibly more to follow.

The Players, the Coaches and the ADs wanted it, and the Presidents said yes. The Ivy League doesn't care what the fans on these board think.
