Great news. Well deserved for all of them. Nana has improved his game a lot, even during the last two months. Clearly the top defensive player, which has to be a major reason he beat out Kempton for POY.

Would be interesting to know how close--or not close--the Player of the Year voting was...but I guess they don't publish that.

My only fear is this gives Kempton added motivation for the tournament.

If he needs this for motivation, then he has another problem.

Some Lehigh fans are apparently under the misconception that
(A) Only offense counts in basketball. No matter how much better Nana's defense was, that is irrelevant; and
(B) Team performance is irrelevant to POY.
Had anyone looked at the history of the PL POY award, they would have concluded that Foulland was clearly the favorite for the award. It usually goes to the top player on the top team, unless there is an overwhelming difference - which was not the case here. I was unsure about the voting simply because there are so many relatively new coaches, whose voting patterns have yet to be established. In other sports, the award usually goes to the top player on the top team as well.

Wow, congratulations Nana and the entire Bucknell team. I agree that the Defensive POY designation probably propelled Nana over Kempton. I wouldn't be surprised if Kempton's attitude also played a role, though we'll never know. I think the teams look good and players were properly placed. And Davis absolutely deserves COY. All in all a great showing by the Bison!

I think last year's QF loss will provide our guys with plenty of motivation, far outweighing anything on Lehigh's side. Kempton does have other problems, as you and many of us have noted.

Congrats to Coach Davis and the guys. Don' t know that it cost him poy, but Kempton's snarly demeanor definitely did not help him.
IMO Kimbal is one of the most underrated players in the league, and better than 3rd team, but he'll get his turn. Nana has truly become a force as this season has progressed.
Announcers were joking Sat that nobody will want to play us next year. Given that CND will have his best team next year I'd think he'd like to get a schedule like the 2006 and 2013 teams had. While the success of those teams won' t make the job any easier, Nathan does not have to schedule as many games as they did. Don't look for any " name" team to come to Sojka though.

63, I was thinking the same thing about Kempton. I doubt that he is well liked around the league. He is respected for his playing ability, but the whining has to go.
We have to all be very proud of Foulland and Coach Davis. Also, it has been great to see Brown mature as a player.
As for Kimbal, I think that he could have easily been 2nd team. I would not be surprised if he just missed the cut.
I am a little disappointed that no Bison made the All Freshman team, but given the number of Juniors and Seniors on Bucknell that play major minutes, it would have been tough to justify Toomer or Moore making the All Freshman team.
Overall, GREAT regular season for the Bison. Now, the real season starts!
GO BISON!

Can't be too greedy.
Avi and Bruce both could have been all-rookie and probably would have been elsewhere. Just shows how much depth we have. They will be much bigger factors next year; and I would bet that they will have their tournament moments this year, too.
Suppose one of them has a monster tournament and makes the all-tournament team. Would that surprise anyone?

Bison54, you make very valid points. No, I would not be surprised to see Toomer and Moore have a monster tournament, but yes, I would be happily surprised to see them make the All Tournament Team.

Near meltdown on the Lehigh board:

I can fully appreciate their point(s) of view. That being said, IMO, being the best player on the best team counts for a lot in the PL.

There have been some laughable statements made by some LU fans. A few seem to,understand basketball statistics as well as my dog understands nuclear physics. It is possible to make a case statistically that Kempton was slightly better than Nana, just as a statistical case can be made for Nana. Very close overall. - except Nana led his team to 1st place while Kempton led an underachieving group to the 3 seed.

Looking at the Pomeroy stats that measure stats per possession or in some similar fashion, stats are split between the two:
Nana leads in:
Effective fg pct
Offensive rebounds
Assist rate
Turnover rate (lower)
Blocks
FT rate (FTs drawn relative to shots)
2-pt FG pct
Kempton leads in:
Defensive rebounding
Steals (but only by 0.1)
Fouls committed per 40 (but only by 0.1)
Fouls drawn per 40
FT pct
3-pt pct (although Nana hasn't attempted any)
Nana has a slight edge in win shares per 40 minutes (sports-reference.com)

63, this made me think of Jackie Moon in Semi-Pro who is always complaining.

Eight underclassmen on the All PL team and we have four of them. Next year is going to be very fun!

Brown is on pace to join Zach and Nana with 1000 points. Kimball will likely get there too, but not next year.
