Win this one, and we force Penn to defeat Harvard. Interestingly, KP has both Brown against us, and P vs. H as one point favorites. But I think Penn will be hard pressed to beat Harvard, and if we can beat Brown, it would greatly reduce my complexity fatigue from trying to figure the other paths for getting into the tournament.

Unless Dartmouth beats penn, it's looking a lot like the end of our tourney run. Down 23 at the half, don't think we're coming back from this one. If Penn wins tonight too many things have to go one way for us to have a reasonable shot.

The pendulum swings the other way, and we play terribly--outrebounded by 25, and lose by 20. But Penn loses to Dartmouth, so we're still in this thing.

Time to forget this game, prep for Yale, try to beat them, hope that Princeton beats D and Brown beats Cornell, and Harvard beats Penn.

Yes, that's not a very dignified way to make the tournament, but since it's our only option, I guess we'll have to take it.

Why didn't our coaches have this team ready to play? Disgraceful performance which makes me wonder if JE has what it takes.

Give Brown a little credit.

Brown shot well from 3 and rebounded very well. Columbia gave up 50% of defensive boards to Brown. This was a disgrace, our defense was disgraceful, Chet is right on this one.

Confusing, but it seems to me that Columbia still gets into the tournament unless Penn defeats Harvard tomorrow night and we lose to Yale in which case Penn would be 6-8 and we would be 5-9. If both Columbia and Penn lose tomorrow night, Columbia would take fourth place unless Dartmouth upsets Princeton in which event Dartmouth would finish in a three-way with Columbia and Penn and also win the tie-breaker. I'm not sure I understand what happens in the event Cornell defeats Brown or vice-versa. if Cornell defeats Brown, Cornell would still finish 4-10, which would be one game behind Columbia and Penn, whereas if Brown wins it would finish in a three-way tie with Columbia and Penn. In that case, I'm uncertain who gets the 4th place spot, although it might be Columbia.

Columbia wins any tie at 5-9 that does not include Dartmouth.

Full list of scenarios (I think) here:

The Brown v Cornell result only matters if both C and Penn win.

Columbia doesn't deserve post season play. It's that simple. And I wouldn't blame the coaches. Engels has proved he can coach, but he can't play the game for the guys. At this level, each player is responsible for bringing his game, and the guys just didn't. CU lost this one on the boards. Rebounding is about desire as much as coaching, so that speaks volumes. One hopes this is a learning phase for a young team. Must be frustrating for the seniors.

No apparent motivation on our part. It felt to me as if our seniors ended their season last Saturday night by winning the Penn game. By and large we have been a bad team the second time through the league.

Wow. Another stinker. I really don't understand how this team can be so good one night and so bad the next.

As other have pointed out, the biggest disaster seems to be rebounding. Not to disparage Brown, but to get out-rebounded by more than 2:1 is pathetic.

It really makes one appreciate Cohen, Rosenberg and Lo, and the work they did on the glass...especially Cohen. Intellectually, I was always aware of what a great rebounder (and interior defender) Cohen was. But it's still shocking to see how bad we are on the boards in his absence.

We've now lost 6 out of the last 7.

Maybe next year they should add a rule where no more than 4 teams qualify for the tournament, but you have to go .500 to get in.

Then give Princeton a bye if the season breaks down like this year.

For this year, hopefully somebody out of Columbia, Penn, and Dartmouth wins tonight against a playoff team. That will at least make it feel like they did something to get in (and maybe change our perspectives that we don't deserve it). Columbia backing in at 5-9 if everybody loses will certainly seem pretty weak.

Well Penn really doesn't deserve home court advantage so the Lions sneaking in as #4 would be the lesser of two stinkers in my book. Hope you guys shock Yale tonight.

Go Tigers!

Yeah don't feel bad Columbia fans... another Penn fan here who thinks if we can't beat Dartmouth, we don't derserve to be in the playoffs. If we somehow surprise and beat Harvard tonight and manage to get in, I'll feel a little better about it, but I think it's a real long shot.

If Columbia and Penn both lose tonight, I hope Dartmouth shocks the world and beats Princeton and then at least somebody actually won a game to make it.

PU with a 52-22 halftime lead, so the world will really be shocked if Dartmouth pulls this one out.
