It would sure be some gamesmanship...I bought tickets not thinking it through...Being in the middle of Princeton fans could be interesting.

Two more quick things:

How in the world was this their first Saturday win?

How could they have alumni in the building and once again not bring them out, not say their names and not even put a camera on them? I know I saw Solomito and I'm pretty sure I saw Justin Reilly. I heard someone say Schiffner but I never saw his face. They need to be acknowledged better.

Only now seeing the video of Howard's blocks on ESPN. Wow, he had some monster plays.

Between Tannenwald, Jensen and Dick they usually do.i was wondering the same. CSNPhilly and Penn guy Steven Tydings did a nice job.

They had a reporter at the game last night---I think it just hasn't been posted yet...now it has--Kern.

Read City of Basketball Love coverage of the game. Two great articles that caught the emotions beautifully. Congrats to Matt Howard and the team. The win was thrilling, and our caliber of play matched what we did to Yale in New Haven. I was as disappointed as all of us after Friday night, and my expectations were low. By hindsight, however, Columbia, last week, and Dartmouth on Friday, played with the same motivation we had against Harvard. They HAD to win. There was no choice , or they were going home. It is amazing how a "can't lose" mindset plus talent is so much greater than merely a "we need this game" mindset and possibly greater talent. This was our best home win in years. All the seniors except Matt Howard dropped off the roster for one reason or another. Matt brought glory back to Penn and made us relevant again. He belongs in the pantheon ofPenn basketball heroes.

umbrellaman, you're right, that was a well designed final play. It came down to whether Baker was going to stay at home and defend against Betley's initial cut to the hoop, Brodeur's late cut to the hoop, or come out and cover a wide open Donahue. He chose Betley, which wasn't a bad decision.

If Baker came out to pick up Donahue earlier then the player guarding Howard (Bassey?) would have have to cheat towards the hoop, leaving Howard with space to put up a shot.

I'm guessing if Harvard covered Donahue then the final shot would have been up to Betley choosing to cut hard to the hop or to pop over a Brodeur screen. When Donahue was left unmarked then the final shot decision was cast.

It was interesting how many underclassmen were out there for both teams.

So when is the appropriate time to cut down the nets, after finishing 14-0 or after the tournament?

They had a whole program for the alums with the annual 'game' and receptions etc.. A couple of dozen came in for it and were in attendance (see the link at the top of this thread for details.) There were too many to march out there but they did get a chance to hang with the current players and talk them up. I had a chance to talk to Reilly after the game (he scored 16 in the alumni game on 4-5 from 3 by his count playing with Cohen, Darley, Zoller, and Solomito. They won.) He said nobody saw that last play coming either.. He also echoed some of the comments about AJ that Danley made on the board last week.

One of the things we talked about before the game started was that a lot of things would have to go right for Penn to win. That included a strong in-game coaching performance from SD & Co. Amaker may be a great recruiter but has never been great with in-game tactics and last night was no exception. If I'm a Harvard fan, I'm scratching my head wondering why he has his kids abandoning the offensive boards entirely with his huge front court talent advantage. Why he did not go zone ealier when it was clear SD had Penn taking it to the rack relentlessly, in part to try and get H bigs foul trouble. As was noted earlier, there was no pressure on Penn's final possessions. Let's give the Penn coaches some credit for what happened last night. Oh, and on further review I think the note I read just now about that last play looking like what we tried to do at Columbia might be right.

Our friends from Nassau erroneously think the time was after the conclusion of the regular season. While they cut down the nets last night--does any other league champion do that?

Didn't think so. I don't think the women did that up at Harvard last night, either.

Well they have to celebrate something? The NIT won't be as exciting as beating Dartmouth to go 14-0.

You can't spell Princeton without N-I-T.

Something I noticed. In the final time out before Donahue's shot, Amaker spent until the first buzzer conversing with his assistants. Doesn't a coach know what he wants his team to do in all end of game situations & doesn't he spend the entire minute of the time out making sure his players know what they are to be looking out for & defensive responsibilities?

I can't believe the tournament is on Shabbos and Purim. Big bummer. Bring your groggers.

I know. Should Penn pull the Shabbat upset and send our friends from Nassau into purgatory, we will be at a Purim Bar Mitzvah on Sunday afternoon where I'll be one of the megillah readers. Maybe I'll slip in a "Princeton" for Haman--it gets the same reaction, anyways.

Am I mistaken, or do I detect a vineyard of sour grapes out there? With a 6-8 record, or was it 5-9?, you will need all the help you can get from an Old Testament God who never had the advantage of the three point shot.

But, some believe in miracles.
