Excellent article. Some folks contend that Pete Carril still casts a "shadow" over the Tiger program. Coach Henderson embraces him.
Princeton was so fortunate to have Carril's ability to see things that others did not. He put together a bunch of good basketball players with no more than average athletic abilities and got them to excel by instituting a system that got great results. The ESPN 30/30 piece on how they almost beat Georgetown/Mourning says it all.
Coach Henderson has taken the Carril system and modified it with better athletes, less back door cuts but the concept is still the same -- take open shots. Mitch still utilizes a throw backplayer, Spencer Weisz. If shots are not open, he now has Cook, Stephens and Cannady to create on their own shots if need be. He also has raised the defensive intensity.
Carril should always be honored by the Princeton faithful. How fortunate that he coached the Tigers for 29 years and still stays connected with the program.
