Along with the brackets (and no Ivies, to no one's surprise) are 3 new experimental rules for the NIT

1) Fouls are reset to zero after 10 minutes in each half

2) It now takes 5 fouls to go over the limit in each 10 minute period and the 1 and 1 is eliminated.

3) All re-sets of the 30 second clock in the forecourt (such as after a foul or after a missed shot with an 0-Rebound) are to 20, rather than 30 seconds.

What do you think of these proposed changes?

I think they're awful. Being able to make free throws at crunch time is a huge part of the game. It won't be long until free throws are eliminated all together.

Well, I hate FTs, so that part is fine with me. Not fond of the clock reset which rewards a team for committing a quick foul.

I don't believe the clock is reset to 20 unless the shot clock is below 20 at the time of the reset---in other words, I don't think you can commit a foul with 28 seconds left and get a reset to 20.

I like the proposed changes. But that's a good point about the quick foul. Should probably reset to 20 only if the clock is under 20.

More solutions in search of problems that don't exist.

If the NIT is such a great event, why is it necessary to trick it up?

These are FIBA rules. If you notice in FIBA ball, they don't allow a breakaway, they'll take the foul in the front court - having more fouls to give over 40 minutes is probably why. They don't have the NBA rule where 2 fouls in the last 2 minutes puts you over the limit.
In FIBA and the NBA the shot clock only gets reset to 14 seconds with a 24 sec shot clock - it's like they take the 10 seconds from the backcourt away.

Meh. The 1 and 1 is a great part of the game, although in terms of expected value, the inbounds might be better.
