2018 Recruiting 08-14-17 10:21 AM - Post#231945

Interesting. This player was originally listed as a Penn target a few months ago after his HS teammate committed to UP, before he started getting significant major conference interest.
Siddiq Bey
Given the history, I would say this is a long shot but Mitch (with Kerry Kittles' assistance? I wonder) is doing good things.

I'm trying to keep from getting carried away. But, given that the most recent news was his tweet listing Princeton as one of his finalists and that he has not yet made an official visit, it would appear that we are very much in the running. Perhaps SATs are still an open issue. But, Sidwell Friends is a pretty good school for preparing students for college.

Other than their unfortunate school mascot, yes.

I LIKE Quakers (except those from Philadelphia). But, how to cheer for them does present a dilemma. Fight fiercely, Quakers?

Drew Friberg, a 6'6 small forward from State College, PA has committed to Princeton today. Had offers from lots of Ivy and Patriot schools, plus BU and Penn State.

Has a nice stroke from 3--quick release, good catch-and-shoot and off the dribble to the left or to the right. 6'6" and no dunks on the 5 minute highlight video

6'6" snipers always have a role if they can play defense and move the basketball when necessary.

He seems to have a sturdy body and can take a hit on the way to the hoop.

It seems, from last year, that MH likes to have 5 medium to tall players with interchangeable offensive and defensive skills. This player fits that plan.

Any more fancy recruit prospects out there, or have we stopped looking for 2018?

MH seems to be leaning toward quicker, shorter lineups with multiple 3 Point shooters. Pete Miller, if I remember correctly, was not starting at the end of last season although he gave us significant minutes in the post and on defense. I believe that Will Gladson (255 lbs!) will be giving us different contributions this year. We will still be able to call on Richard Arizguroh(?) who appears to be a high-energy, rapidly developing center. I like our squads of multi-talented players who can share the load and shift assignments at short notice. We should be seeing an increased focus on defense this season as younger players emerge. It may take us awhile to recover from graduation losses. But, by late season we should be firing on all cylinders and next year could be another special one.ðŸ…

Soooo, Brendan Adams and Saddiq Bey ... do each of you still have us in the back of your mind? Plan a nice visit on a pretty autumn day.

FWIW, the Bey (now listed as 4 stars) Verbal Commits page does not show Princeton (Penn is shown as "No interest"), and unsurprisingly he is not listed as a target on PU's page:
Bey page
PU page
I have no idea what this really means.

With regards to Saddiq Bey, his timeline at 247Sports notes that he has made his 5 official visits at Pitt (9/1), Xavier (9/15), Northwestern (9/22), Miami (9/29) and NC State (10/6).
https://247sports.com/Player/Saddiq-Bey-460 41574/T...
Earlier today, Rivals noted that Bey has only made four official visits - Pitt, Xavier, Miami and NC State.
Corey Evans at Rivals thought Miami was the leading school, but the recent FBI investigation may have given Bey some pause. Evans feels that he could take an official trip to Princeton in the next few weeks.
https://basketballrecruit ing.rivals.com/news/twitt...
FWIW - On 9/21, just prior to Bey's scheduled official visit to Northwestern, the Wildcats received a commitment from Miller Kopp, another four-star wing recruit. Could this decision have lessened Northwestern's interest and caused Bey to drop the official visit Northwestern?
A big question is which group is correct regarding Bey's official visits?

Princeton is still hoping to bring in more players in the Class of 2018. Not sure why they don't show up on Verbal Commits, but there are several players who have been taking official visits to Princeton this fall and posting about it on Twitter.

Princeton put a fair deal of effort behind Mason Forbes but lost out to Harvard. Then again, Princeton beat out Harvard for Jaelin earlier this year, so those two have been locking horns a lot.
Still some talent left out there, but this isn't a very deep class. Wouldn't be surprised if Princeton took one more, but wouldn't blame it for not chasing and just calling it a day with the three it has (a big-time feature combo guard and two nice complementary pieces).
