Penn has posted its incoming class on PennAthletics.com.

http://www.pennathletics.com/news/men-s-basketball ...

The class includes the four expected newcomers: Jelani Williams 6-5/195, Jarrod Simmons 6-8/220, Eddie Scott 6-6/195 and Mark Jackson 7-3/245.

But the class also includes someone I wasn't expecting: Griffin Halpern 5-11/165, Woodbury, NY Syosset. I must have missed a posting about him. What do we know about him?

I don't know anything about the kid except what was in your post. But I'd say a good guess is that he was the highest scorer in this recruiting class.

yeah, can we not do this? this is 2017. if we don't know anything about a recruit when he starts matriculating, we know everything about that that recruit.

Griffin Halpern: Ivy POY for both 2019-20 and 2020-21. You can take that to the bank.

"Griffin Halpern-- just wow. If I had half that guy's talent, maybe I'd have a shot at being drafted." Bryce Aiken

Heard Mark jackson was attending the 1st session of summer school. If correct he should get a lot of bb and conditioning in over this summer after two years of pain au chocolat

I prefer to think of it as two years of growing into his 7-3 frame.

I think those LDS missions have pretty strict rules about playing ball when you are on one. His coach said he should be a little rusty when he returns when he commented on the mission two years ago. I hope it's not like trying to regain your short game in golf. That almost never happens.

He played tennis too. Hopefully that translates to good foot work on the B Ball court

He's 7'3". We didn't nab him for his short game.

Probably taking the Mo Esformes slot that was vacated last year.

So maybe the Donahue connection helped.

No doubt Griffin is on a first name basis with Wolfgang Florin.

There was a Florian Homm ('82) who I understood (fortunately for Harvard) couldn't play at Harvard because of previous German pro basketball experience. Florian has since ended up on an FBI Most Wanted Poster and is the subject of an SEC action and civil lawsuits for allegedly making off with hundreds of millions in a scheme involving a fund and penny stock manipulation. Apparently Florian was shot after fleeing to Venezuela but is now back in Germany where the government declines to extradite him. He's written two books including "Rogue Financier."

Flo was a character at Harvard, and a decent 6'7" ball player. In view of the foregoing, my memory of chopping wood with this somewhat aristocratic German giant in the snowy backwoods of Vermont one weekend now seems surreal. Enough said.
