Very late getting this started. The Bison received three commitments during the spring. All are from good programs in good football states.

• Tarrin Earle 6-3 185 lb QB (Montclair HS, NJ) - Passing: 100-163 (61.3%) for 1700 yards, 13 TD’s, 3 INTs; Rushing: 41-241 yds, 4 TD’s.
Montclair QB Earle Commits to Bucknell

• Ryan Betz 6-3 265 DL (Malvern Prep, PA) - 2nd team 5A All-State PA 2016; All-Philadelphia Area; All-InterAC; listed as #7 recruit in Southeastern PA (Philly.com)

• Cole McCabe 5-11 212 lb SS/LB (Malvern Prep, PA) – All InterAC; had offer from Youngstown State.

Note that there is no info as to whether all received full scholarships as opposed to partials.

Interestingly, the school with the most overlap with Bucknell when it comes to offers is Army (18 offers). The next few are Holy Cross (14), Navy (13), and Fordham (9). There is a fair amount of overlap with Cornell, Columbia, and Dartmouth. Very little with Lafayette, Lehigh, or Colgate.

Commitment #5:

Grayson Cherubino, a 6-4 230 lb DE from St. Anthony's (NY) HS, which is on the border of Nassau and Suffolk Counties in Long Island. Good football tradition. Cherubino had offers from Army, Holy Cross, Fordham, Cornell, and Brown.

1. Tarrin Earle 6-3 185 lb QB (Montclair HS, NJ) - Passing: 100-163 (61.3%) for 1700 yards, 13 TD’s, 3 INTs; Rushing: 41-241 yds, 4 TD’s.

Commitment #7:

Jacob Russ, 6-4 240 lbs OL (TX) from Arlington H.S., a good program between Dallas and Fort Worth. Had offers from Army and Montana State. He was 1st team All-District and honorable mention All-State in 6A, the largest class in the state. That is impressive, given the quality of football in Texas.

The Bison over the past six years have had a number of players from Texas, with a good pct becoming important contributors: QB Brandon Wesley, OL Ian Dal Ballo, DT Tracey Smith, WR Josh Brake, DB Joseph Francis, CB Sal Vallalla, DB/WR Robert Owoyele, and LB Patrick Joyce. Maybe some others.

Russ was actually commitment #8. The 7th commitment was a few days earlier:

Brandon Sanders 6-1 195 lb WR (PA) from St. Joes HS in Philly, the 2016 state champ. SJ won the 6A (largest schools) PA title with a 42-7 win over Pittsburgh power Central Catholic, who entered the game with a 14-1 record. Game ended with the mercy rule being applied.

This hasn't been updated for a couple of months. In early September there were two more commitments (#9 and #10):

- Hildebrand , Sam . FS . 5-11 180 lbs ( OH ) … Butler

Hildebrand has been having a nice season as a FS and KR for a strong Ohio team.

- Sterling Deary . CB . 5-11 170 (TX) - originally committed to Air Force as part of Class of 2017; also had offers from Holy Cross and San Diego.

Also new offers:

- Cole Schut 6-4 270 OL/DL (MI) - offers from Drake and Morehead State

- Dean Morris 6-4 225 TE/DE (NJ) 2019

- Justin Kopko 6-4 305 DL/OL (PA) 2019

Morehead State and Drake are Pioneer Football league schools, with scholarship restrictions. How do we stack up?

Bucknell is a bit better than Drake, which is the second best PFL team (behind San Diego) and MUCH better than Morehead. We are getting near the time when a lot of new offers go out to slightly worse players (subjective) when it starts to become clear that a school is not going to land many of their top targets. In the past, that process has gathered steam into January, prior to the early February signing date. However this year football, for the first time, has an early signing date just before Christmas, so there will likely be a lot of activity over the next five weeks.

Under the NCAA calendar, most of the period starting just after Thanksgiving and ending in February is an active recruiting period - when coaches can visit players and players can take official visits - with the exception of some time around Christmas and New Year's. In the past, a lot of new recruits were brought in for visits in January, but now a good amount of that activity may be shifted to the month before Christmas. In any event, I am sure we will see a lot of new offers over the next month or two.

Earle has led his Montclair team to the Group 5 (largest schools) championship game of North Jersey, played this weekend in MetLife Stadium. His stats for the year look like this:

PASSING: 132-187 (71%) for 2265 yards; 27 TDs, 4 INT; QB Rating of 142.0.
RUSHING: 27 carries for 256 yards and 4 TDs

In the semi-final vs a good Ridgewood team he went 12-16 for 239 yards and 2 TDs.

It's too early too judge whether he will be a good FCS level QB, but his performance this year is impressive.

Commitment #11:

Dominic Lyles 6-2 185 lb WR (MD) - DeMatha HS; offers from Navy, Army, Air Force, Monmouth, RMU, Morgan State.

Bison actually offered him in July but I didn't catch it. DeMatha is a strong program in the WCAC.

Earle's Montclair team won the North Jersey Group 5 (largest schools) title at MetLife Stadium in the Meadlowlands on Saturday:

MOUNTIES LEAVE NO DOUBT IN 35-14 CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY OVER UNION CITY

Excerpt:

"For the Bucknell commit, Friday was the perfect end to an incredible season which saw him break both career and single-season Mounties records. At MetLife, the lights were brighter than ever before in Earle’s career and he responded with a near-flawless effort, going 16-of-24 for 303 yards, a pair of touchdown passes and just one interception. On the end of his first drive of the night, Earle capped it with an 11-yard touchdown run."

It will be interesting to see how he develops at Bucknell and whether he has D1 arm strength.

Bucknell recently received commitment #12: Daniel Sheehan 6-2 230 lb LB/DE (PA) from Hershey HS. Had offers from Cornell and Columbia. His brother is a soph DL for the Bison.

Sansalone was just named 1st team All-South Jersey, which is a good football area. The team only included five offensive linemen. He is now listed as 6-4 275 lbs btw. Sansalone also had offers from Fordham and Albany - but he committed in June. Almost certainly would have piled up offers had he waited until the fall to commit.

One other recruit that I had missed:

Dylan DeMarco 6-4, 225 lbs TE (NJ) - The Lawrenceville School

All of the players in the list above signed today. Sheehan is not shown in the press release - likely because he was a last-minute commitment who may have to get final clearance from admissions - but he is still committed.

Another commitment as we get closer to the February signing date:

Jared Cooper, 5-8 175 lb RB (PA) from West Chester East. Had an offer from Cornell.

Cooper missed all but 3.5 games this year with a bad ankle injury - suffered midway through Game 1 - but he still rushed for almost 700 yards and 9 TD's in that limited time. Had 1308 yards (5.1 ypa) and 17 TD's as a junior. He has also posted some very fast dash times on the track, and had a 630 lb box squat, 500 lb deadlift and 300 lb bench press as a junior.

Including Sheehan and Cooper, they have added seven players not in the original press release. Added some linemen, although likely not their top targets. Hamper comes from the same Oregon HS as two current Bison (Sam Chitty and Blake Fletcher) who have worked out well.

- Sean Norton 6-5 250 lb OL (NY)

- Michael Killiri 6-4 255 lb OL (PA)

- Luke Hamper 6-3 225 b LB (OR)

- Brandon Crkvenac 6-4 250 lb DL (DE)

- Alex Jones 6-1 205 lb RB (OH) - prepped in CT

- Daniel Sheehan 6-2 230 lb LB/DE (PA)

- Jared Cooper 5-8 175 lb RB (PA)
