I saw that, but have no answer. It seems like a terrible move. That location was perfect and it has been there for many decades. It is often used by visitors as a picture spot. It was a gift of the Class of 1941 iirc. There may not be any remaining members of that class to object to what is happening to their gift. Now their statue will apparently be hidden in the back of campus.

Edit: I see one new tweet that implies a bigger Bison statue is coming to that location. I hope that is correct.

It's a tweet from a Bison softball player, and I have no idea of its accuracy:

"I've been saying they need a bigger bison in front of the KLARC for four years. Thank you Bucknell for listening to my complaint."

Yes, one of the Bucknell art professors has created a new, larger Bison statue that will take the place of the old one. The old one is being moved (or has been) to the patio of the new MacDonald Commons building.

This is one of the proposals. Its either bronze or aluminum.

Apparently its going to have a base for photo's and pep rallys.

I cannot verify if this is in fact the one but it seems legit.

Hopefully, they will replace his missing left horn. He had been missing a horn for several years but I noticed during reunion weekend that he had them both. I don't know what happened since then!

In response to several comments on the Bucknell Facebook page expressing misgivings and disappointment, the university posted this: "A new 6-foot-at-shoulder bison statue, a gift from the Class of 1975, will be installed in the KLARC U and celebrated at Homecoming."

To confuse the incoming students, not only have we added a MacDonald to compete with McDonnell Hall, but we've moved a large, roaming monument across campus.

I was working at the KLARC on Wed, and got to talk to the "Bison" movers, an interesting number , the old statue weighs 15,000 pounds. The 7 1/2 ton beast as stated is being relocated and a new larger replacement, will replace it at the KLARC. Hard to imagine the number of photo's that have been taken over the years, as perspective students and their parents visited the campus, the old Bison has stood his post with honor.

I agree with this. Considering its proximity to the entrance, this Bison has to be the most well placed and iconic sculpture on campus and has carried itself well. As far as sculptures goes, this to me is the main one, then there are a few phallic stone monuments well placed, and a Gauguin knockoff between Carnegie and the career center and not much more. There is almost a lack of sculptures on campus, which is better than too many in my view. The open space next to Coleman and above admissions has alway been conspicuously lacking of a sculpture of some sort.

The fountain was better than a sculpture.

Agreed, except for its unfortunate habit of leaking into Freas. It's a shame they couldn't come up with an economical way to fix or replace it.

But when is the new Bison arriving at the traditional location in front of the KLC?

Sounds like not til Homecoming. I regret the gap period and hope they make a big deal about the installation of the replacement. I also really hope the replacement is impressive. On CBS College Sports broadcasts they often show the Bison statue.
