Unfortunately Tom Mitchell '66, one of the best football players in Bison history, passed away yesterday. Mitchell was the father-in-law of Greg Schiano and the grandfather of current Bison DE Joe Schiano.
From the Bucknell Hall of Fame website:
"The finest pass receiver in Bucknell football history, Tom Mitchell was twice selected ECAC College Division Player of the Year and first team Little All-American. He held Bucknell records for receptions in a game (13 vs. Harvard on Oct. 3, 1964) and career (173 from 1963-65), as well as receiving yards in a game (264 vs. Temple on Oct. 9, 1965) and career (2358). He also owned a share of the school mark for touchdown catches in a career with 18. Mitchell later played in two Super Bowl games with the Baltimore Colts. "
Note that the career records shown above were set in only 27 varsity games - the max that a player could play in that era. Mitchell also played in the NFL for 11 years.
