Cornell has given an offer to Langston (Trey) Wertz III, a 3-Star 6'5" shooting guard. He attends Providence Day School in Charlotte. His father, Langston Wertz Jr., covers high school sports for the Charlotte Observer.

Wertz has a number of offers including Penn, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Boston College, Davidson, Tulane, Richmond, Charlotte, La Salle, Rice, Old Dominion, and Santa Clara.

About two weeks ago, Cornell made an offer to Rey Idowu of Holy Trinity Academy in Florida. He was originally listed in the class of 2017, but has since been moved to the class of 2018.

Idowu is a 6'9" two-star power forward with offers from UNH, Richmond, Lafayette, Eastern Tennessee State, Canisius, Louisiana Tech and Little Rock.

Cornell also has an offer to Davis Franks, a 6'7" small forward from Northfield Mount Hermon H.S. (MA). Franks has offers from Brown and American, at this time.

In early July, Jerry Higgins, a 2 star 5'9" point guard from Villa Angela-St. Joseph's High School in Cleveland was at Cornell for an unofficial visit. He was supposed to take part in a camp there, but could not participate due to an injury.

Higgins presently has offers from Army and Fairmont State.

Kobe Dickson, a 6'9" 210 pound F/C from Holcomb High School in Kansas, became Cornell's first commit for 2018. Verbal Commits does not list any other offers.

Dickson was Honorable Mention in the Great West Activities Conference (GWAC). In a 9/2017 Prep Hoops scouring reports, the author noted that "Dickson has the ability to compete in the paint, shoot from the midrange and is a terrific shot blocker, able to protect the rim and the paint."

Looking at other names from the team's Verbal Commits page:
Rey Idowu, who received an offer from Cornell, committed to Illinois State earlier in the week.
Davis Franks took an official visit to Brown this past weeekend.
Trey Wertz, according to posts at the Penn board, has taken recent official visits to Penn, Temple and Santa Clara. No news on any trip to Ithaca.

The stories out of Kansas paint Dickson as very good rebounder and defender -- he helped Holcomb win a state title last year for mid-sized schools. He could be a nice under the radar pick-up.

Verbal Commits says Wertz is headed to Santa Clara. I guess nice weather isn't important to him.

Cornell has just added another recruit for the fall of 2018.

Dean Noll, a 2 star 6' 2" (or 6' 1" according to Philly.com) PG, from Shawnee High School in South Jersey. This is the same school where Coach Earl and his brother attended.

Noll averaged 21.7 ppg on 56% shooting and his 737 total points bested Dan Earl's single season record of 675 at Shawnee. He made 21 three pointers at a 40% rate this year, but his strength is in getting into the lane and hitting mid-range jumpers.

He was named the South Jersey Player of the Year by Philly.com and the Courier Post.

Here's a little more on Dean Noll from Phil Anastasia of Philly News.

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/high_sc hool/de...

Cornell gave Noll an offer last Thursday night and it was his first Division 1 offer. He had been given offers at Division 2 schools Caldwell University and the University of the Sciences.

Noll has not visited the campus, but is hoping to make it up to Cornell this spring.

rbg -- thanks for this. Three high school seniors and maybe one D1 offer among them. I hope Earl knows what he is looking for.

Some updates on new recruits Kobe Dickson and Matt Harshaney as their choice of Cornell becomes official.

http://www.gctelegram.com/sports/20180412/#%$@ on-...

Dickson starting playing for Holcomb High School's varsity team in his sophomore year, where he averaged 4.1 points and 2.5 rebounds in 17 games. In his junior year, he averaged 9.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. This past season, he averaged 15.6 points and 11.5 rebounds a game.

Although he played in the post this year, he told the paper that he will need to work on his mid-range jumper and ball handling skills for next season.

Dickson was also named 1st team KBCA (Kansas Basketball Coaches Association) All-State Class 4A Division II this year. - http://www.cjonline.com/sports/20180326/zach- harve...

http://www.nwfdailynews.com/sports/20180412/like- d...

Matt Harshany averaged 25.2 points and 3.5 assists per game this past year for Navarre High School in Florida.

A profile of recent 2018 transfer commit Thurston McCarty from East Central Community College (MS).

http://www.meridianstar.com/sports/former-quitman -...

McCarty is a 6' 7" SF, but he appears to have been moved to the three-guard spot over the last two years. According to McCarty, he will help the team get longer on defense.
