The NCAA tournament is going to add a new tradition taken from The Basketball Tournament:

When I saw that it was a syracuse.com article, I was hoping that the "new tradition" would involve Syracuse playing away OOC games. Silly me!😀

Is anybody else following the new scandal that broke today involving recruits getting money from outfitters? I'm interested to see al the coaches and teams involved.

Interesting - but not surprising - that the top recruit involved (Brian Bowen) ended up at Louisville, even though they hadn't really even been involved in his recruiting until just prior to his commitment. A quote from Pitino, courtesy of SOV on the HC site:
" Rick Pitino said: "We got lucky on this one. I had an AAU director call me and ask me if I'd be interested in a player (Bowen). I saw him against another great player from Indiana. I said, 'Yeah, I'd be really interested.' They had to come in unofficially, pay for their hotel, pay for their meals. We spent zero dollars recruiting a five-star athlete who I loved when I say him play. In my 40 years of coaching, this is the luckiest I've been." "

I'm sure Pitino will claim he knew nothing again.
Other teams I've read that could be involved are Arizona, USC, Oklahoma State, Auburn and Miami

Louisville's involvement is apparently much deeper than first reported. According to a local TV station, "In another case, a coach for a university that matches U of L's description was caught on an undercover FBI video negotiating payments in a Las Vegas hotel room for a second recruit, prosecutors claim. The coach, who is not named, acknowledged that his school was on probation at the time and said, 'we gotta be very low key," according to court documents."
Note that this is not the original reported case involving Bowen but rather a different recruit.

There are few things I would enjoy more than seeing Rick Pitino go to jail. Unfortunately he has probably covered his tracks too well and will pay off the assistant to not implicate him. Pitino has been an unethical POS going back at least since he was 19 years-old. Likely longer.

I hope that all people reportedly involved sing like canaries and that it leads right up to the HCs and ADs of each school. As long as HCs make millions, there will always be pressure to do whatever it takes to win. It is time for a good purging of the powers that be.

Because of hurricane damage, they're moving the Paradise Jam basketball tournament from the Virgin Islands to a to-be-determined location in the mainland United States.
Tough break for family and fans who were fired up for that. Let's hope they aren't forced to replace the tropical paradise with something like Buffalo.*

*Apologies to you Buffalonians; I'm still grumbling about our snowbound NCAA destination last season.

I think there could be postseason bans, but likely not this year. The NCAA is likely to stay out of the way while the FBI investigation continues. Eventually they will likely piggyback on the findings of that investigation - but that could be a few years away. In the meantime, some schools that know they won't be very good may take self-imposed bans to try to avoid tougher sanctions later.

Pitino was put on mandatory unpaid leave. This is one step away from being fired. I wonder when the perp walk will happen?

My guess is his administrative leave will last the 10 days that his contract requires U of L to give him notice prior to his firing.

Makes one wonder about his buddy RW. Taking the positive view for him, maybe that's why he bailed.

The HC Board is wondering if Ralph Willard will be brought in as in Interim HC at Louisville. Personally, I think that he is way too close to Patino and find it hard to believe that anybody associated with the entire coaching staff will be kept on board. Then again, the NCAA might give them the death penalty at which point, they won't need an Interim HC.

Several sources say the interim HC job has been offered to assistant coach David Padgett. As for the death penalty, if that happens it won't occur for several years. Doubtful the NCAA will do much investigation until the FBI finishes. The FBI, with its subpoena powers, is much more equipped for the task, and they don't want the NCAA getting in their way.
