Small conference top seeds are dropping like flies. The pitfalls of conference tourneys...

26-4 LA Lafayette got stunned as a 20 point Home favorite. Lunardi was projecting them as a 12 seed.

Northern Kentucky got bounced (projected 14 seed)

Rider got bounced along with all the other top 3 seeds in the MAAC

The La Tech game was not in the Sun Belt conference tournament. It was a regular season conference game. The Sun Belt conference tournament starts on March 7th.

Vermont struggled in the 1st half vs. 6-25 Maine, but pulled away for a 15 point win. They play Stony Brook in the semis. Anthony Lamb is back but did not start.

Marist just fired HC Mike Maker, who had little success in his four years there, never winning more than eight games. A week earlier their AD had said he would return for a fifth year. As most of you know, Maker was Dave Paulsen's successor at Williams and was very successful there.

I could see two former Bison assistants in the mix for this job: Dane Fischer and Mark Prosser, who is a Marist grad.

Marist is a job where a good coach should have a chance to win. It's not like Maine, who also just parted ways with their coach, where winning is virtually impossible.

I saw the news on Mike Maker. Very unfortunate.

Mike is a good man. Very passionate and a very good offensive mind.

As B137 noted, he was a long-time AC at Dartmouth who followed DP as the HC at Williams. He was never able to get things on track at Marist. I'm not sure why. He focused his recruiting on several international players who were capable players, just not good enough to compete in the MAAC.

I hope he gets another opportunity to be a HC. It may not be at the D-1 level, but he certainly has a lot to offer.

I think Prosser would be a very good fit at Marist given his history with the program. The alums would certainly rally around him and I think he can recruit the type of student athlete to Marist to make the program successful.

I don't think that Fischer is the right fit for Marist.

I'm watching Cleveland State vs. Oakland in the Horizon Semifinal. The score is 44-43 with 14 seconds to go. This is not very good ball at all. Lots of one-on-one with poor shots. At least, it is close.

Northeastern leads Charleston in the CAA championship 58-48 with 7:00 to play. Vermont up by 15 on Stony Brook in the AE semi.

Northeastern led by 5 with 40 seconds to play, fouled on a 3pt shot and turned the ball over twice to let Charleston come back and tie, then lost in OT. March madness indeed.

That was a fun game to watch. Charleston had a HUGE home court advantage. I was flipping between 3-4 games for about 2 hours last night. My wife thinks that I am crazy and doesn't understand how I can watch basketball that way. MARCH MADNESS IS UPON US!!! SHALL WE DANCE?

George Mason came back from a large early deficit to narrowly beat UMass in a 5-13 game in the A10 tourney.

St. Joes had a big second half to beat George Mason 68-49. Unless they take a CBI/CIT bid, GMU finishes with a 16-17 record. Their 9-9 in A10 play tied for 5th through 8th. With no seniors on the roster, next year is a huge one for DP as he will have four classes in place and also add a big-man transfer from Virginia.

We officially have the all-Bucknell 1 vs. 16 coaching staff as Jay Wright will be taking on Mike Jones. Mike Jones' Radford squad just easily took care of LIU Brooklyn.

If (When) Radford loses on Thursday, hopefully Mike Jones can get over to Detroit.

Yes, congratulations to Coach Jones and his entire team. Coach Jones seems like a great guy. I wonder how a Bucknell-Radford game would turn out? Wonder if that conversation has taken place in the Jones household?
